Re: Seb Fontaine Savages ?Progressive? House

i went to a seb fontaine show in aug. it had been 3 years since i've seen him. last time, he spun janeiro which was a big treat since sasha had been spinning it on the delta heavy tour. i liked it lots.

how about now? it's pure shit. there's no vibe on the dance floor, it was just electro/prog rock assault all night long. call it "musical evolution" or whatever... personally, i feel it's too bad that quality prog house djs went down the electro/prog rock path - dave seaman, sandra collins (to a degree), satoshi tomiie, sharam of deep dish, and even hernan cattaneo.

yawn... i could not be more bored. it's all about the vibe it creates on the dance floor and electro kills the vibe. the only ppl that appreciate it are those "mainstream" club goers... those ppl that club every week but have no clue which dj is spinning.

so disappointing.

Re: Seb Fontaine Savages ?Progressive? House

I just got back fromt he club and Seb Fontaine was playing tonight. Let me just say, the guy is a real nice guy. The only thing i didnt like about him is when, for some reason, completelly out of the blue, he starts bashing progressive house. I could care less as i dont listen to that much progressive anyways but it just caught me by suprise as how blatant he was about it.

Besides that, Seb rocked it. He was probably the last dj i wanted to see on my list, but he was booked at my best friends club, a club that i am resident and that i also manage. This is not your typical club that you bring some good acts and let them do what you want. This is a "supper club" that catters to people that want bottle service and listen to slightly commercial music. As a dj and resident there, i never play what i dont like, but other residents play a lot of hip hop and garbage commercial shit. But going back to Seb, and after talking to him during and after his set, i was truely impressed by his attitude. He told me that place like this, he had to play to catter to the small "club" type atmosphere and he did just that. He rocked the place. I personnally didnt like his tracks or his style of playing, but the people were going off which is suprising since most want to have some hip-hop/r&b thrown in.

I dont care for his philosophies on dance music or his track selection, but he is a humble guy that knows what people want, wherever he is booked.

Re: Seb Fontaine Savages ?Progressive? House

He has become so unpopular that he's blaming a whole genre for his downfall. What a moron. Hernan has risen to be one the top DJs in the world in the last few years based on progressive sound. The guy seriously lacks intelligence.

Re: Seb Fontaine Savages ‘Progressive’ House

I'd like to heat a new Seb Fontaine mix very much. But unfortunatelly he doesn't make so many mix albu,s and for some reason neither team releases live sets, radio shows from him :(

i don't doubt that he's a nice guy... i think it's easier for a person to be naturally nice than to go out of your way to be an asshole. what was so disappointing to me was his music. it just never picked up to the point where i was dancing my ass off. you know that "dancing your ass off" feeling right?

i'm a prog house fan myself but i don't discount other genre altogether just b/c i'm a "prog head". occasionally, i'll go to a trance show, most recently being above & beyond. yeah, it was cheese but i enjoyed it. while i can't speak for other prog house fans out there, i think many of us don't like electro for a various reasons. one is that the traditional prog house djs have ditched prog house in favor of electro so as fans of the genre and as fans of those djs, we're not getting what we used to. the other reason is that we probably just don't like the sound of electro. we just don't like the buzzy, computer-beeping, blatty sounds, coupled with gay/cheesy vocals. it's annoying and sounds way too mainstream. yes, there are prog house tunes out there equally as annoying.

one genre that's kinda lost in this nebulous line between trance and prog house i feel is progressive trance. it's not cheesy (no massive synth breaks), but it's got great pace and energy unlike some of the more dull and slow prog house. christopher lawrence is a great example. and when armin or other trance djs are in the non-cheezy part of their sets, it's gold. so much vibe...
first off, they arnt playing pure electro dude, come on, its been discussed 1million times. but this "electric house" is extactly that - house. not trance. it will have a different vibe all together. that vibe is why most of us listen to what we do. we appreachiate the feelings from the music.

i'm a house oriented guy and i much prefer the vibe of some good dirty house at a reasonable bpm as opossed to having my hands in the air for 3 hours beimg bombarded with pure cheeze from above and beyond or even armin van burren?! you couldnt pay me to even listen to 30 minutes of there music. prog is in a tough phase right now, but still has its moments every so often. but trance is for the noobies. everyone starts there, and moves on once they've gained some musical knowledge., thats not news to anyone.

It's hard to sit here and listen to some tranceaddict rip on house because they dont know the first thing about it. also im not sure what "electro" djs your listening to but if you think that nobody is doing anything proper on the house front your sadly mistaken. i'd suggest expanding your horizons and check out what some of the more obscure HOUSE (not ex prog) djs are doing before you spit up more comments like this one. if your trying to tell me people like daminel lazuras, james holden, lawler, clive henry, tiefshwarz, trentemoller, fanculli, tiga, ty tek, little mike, etc etc, etc, etc are putting out vibeless mindless worthless super cheezy music wioth no feeling what-so-ever, well then i'll leave you to your "non cheeze armin van burren".:roll::roll:
Hes got a point! I like the lot though to be honest and think every day brings a new frame of mind. Some mornings i wake up with some mad music in my head that ive heard on the radio and claimed never to like, but if its stuck in my head it must have made its mark somehow! I used to slag off lots of types of music but now ive learnt to respect everything even if it isnt quite your taste cos one day you might find that you actually like it!

wowo, slow down there buddy. i think you've gotten on the defense and then started putting words in my mouth. i'm like the biggest prog house fan out there. since when did i become a trance-loving, arm raising noobie? all i said was i like the occassaional trance (and i even said it was cheese) and all the sudden, you gotta bash me to the ground? electro, electric house (as you say), prog rock... we all know what's being discussed here.

seriously, don't start putting words in my mouth. my computer is filled with sets from s&d, dekay, kosmas epsilon, chris & kai, inkfish, kazell, holden, cattaneo, howells... should i go on? oh yeah, and an occassional armin.

sheesh. egotistical musical snobbery.

well, if anything you said had any relevance or even truth, i may not have gotten as agitated with your comment. and your "musical egotism" may perhaps match mine (unlikely tho) with your whole if its not trance/progressive then its mainstream crap with gay vocals and terrible ear bleeding sounds....

embracing the new expands the mind.
