Anyone on MS playing Sudoku?

Sudoku is a placement puzzle, also known as Number Place in the United States. The aim of the puzzle is to enter a numeral from 1 through 9 in each cell of a grid, most frequently a 9?9 grid made up of 3?3 subgrids (called "regions"), starting with various numerals given in some cells (the "givens"). Each row, column and region must contain only one instance of each numeral.

For instance, here is a typical puzzle:

...and here is its solution:

5 3 4 | 6 7 8 | 9 1 2 6 7 2 | 1 9 5 | 3 4 8 1 9 8 | 3 4 2 | 5 6 7 ---------+--------+------- 8 5 9 | 7 6 1 | 4 2 3 4 2 6 | 8 5 3 | 7 9 1 7 1 3 | 9 2 4 | 8 5 6 ---------+--------+------- 9 6 1 | 5 3 7 | 2 8 4 2 8 7 | 4 1 9 | 6 3 5 3 4 5 | 2 8 6 | 1 7 9

It's become highly addictive..

Re: Sudoku

Nope. Those are given numbers. You have to fill in the blank squares. The idea is that each 3 x 3 square grid should hold all numbers 1 to 9. Also, each line (vertical or horizontal) has to contain numbers 1 to 9. Rules are dead simple, no math, but puzzles vary in difficulty. Check the link above on Wikipedia.

You play it anywhere. I've got it in my Palm, but there are plenty of pages, or ajust a crappy piece of paper.

Re: Sudoku

Massive here in the uk, most daily papers have been running 1 or 2 puzzles for about a year. Its quite amazing how its taken off, mainly because its so simple and no maths is involved.

Although some of them are a real b1tch to solve, and i just dont have the patience....

Dunno what you mean. Haven't seen my parents for weeks and my girlfriend looks like Farrah Fawcett, but I'll take that as a compliment, in any case.

All I can tell you is that I've never again become bored on a plane, and that it's a perfectly decent shithole companion.

It is all about the Gattai 5 Puzzles http://sudoku.top-notch.co.uk/gattai5.asp. Gotta love when you are halfway through and realise you have put the wrong number in somewhere.
