Re: going clubbing and getting older?

Ah...that description reminds of how most of my weekends were until 5 years ago...

Look, I?m 30 now, I?ve got wife and kids, so I go clubbing and drinking a lot less than I used to, but even so, I can tell you that hangovers now are much worse and seem to last longer.

I mean, let?s say I go out and drink 4 or 5 vodkas (my drink of choice along with whiskey) and a couple beers...I?ll go to bed at 6 a.m., wake up around 1 p.m. (because my wife forces me to) and I?ll still be drunk (well, queasy at leat, because it?s a lot harder fo me to get drunk nowadays), and I?ll stay like that until say...dinner time..that?s when the hangover sets in, and it?ll last until the next morning!!!

So you see, I get drunk on a saturday night and I?ll go to work on monday with a hangover...

My stomach also usually feels a lot worse than it used to...it used to be that I could gobble 10 pints (no joke) one night and wake up quite ok, not having the shits or anything...now...well, I won?t even go there...

Still, when I remember that I used to go out on weeknights too, and get late to work, totally hungover and fucked up, I don?t miss it. I also don?t miss that period when I would wake up and have my hands and knees shaking until lunch time, when I would drink my 1st beer of the day.

IMO, you shouldn?t start worrying right now. Enjoy it.

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

My weekend was getting huge boxes crammed into a comparitively small car and moving them back and forth from storage to new (shithole) aparment. If you're drinking your guts out, its good cause believe me you'll hit a stage and it'll be..... aahh fuck it I'm just gonna light up, sit at home and put me headphones on.....
but even so, I can tell you that hangovers now are much worse and seem to last longer.
BING-FUCKING-O I got shit canned 2 weekends ago (the last Friday of a 2 month stay back home) with my brother, came back home swirling like a whirlwind, puked all over the bedroom and my lovely wife had to clean it up. I hated that the most but I cant even tell you the life sized hangover I had the next morning.... felt like I had been shot in the head....

overall once you're married, clubbing does tend to reduce.... ESP if your better half isn't really into the music..... so while you're still 25 and unmarried, I say keep up those weekends

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

there are only two factors to consider IMHO.

 1. do you have children? if yes, then tone it down and deal with them. if your 22 or 52. they come first.

 2. you are only as old as you feel. im 25 and feel like im 60. i have an uncle who is mid 40's and can party for days.

Re: going clubbing and getting older?
Woke up on friday with a stinking hangover.
they come easier now. i use to be aable to pop an advil and some water and boom gone. now i am trying to pick up my face at the front door. indeed. getting old sucks. but it is also fun to yell at the young. i would rather be wise then young. i can tell you that.

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

When are you too old to go to a club?

#480022Post 15 of 42

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

never. Les Paul plays a monthly in NYC and there are plenty of oldies chilling out and enjoying a nice scotch. now a 72 yr old in front of the booth at crobar is a bit different.8)

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

when you are yelling at everyone. telling the dj to turn down the music. and you drink a glass of milk instead of a vodka tonic.

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

I figure I'll have dentures when I'm 60 anyways, so why prolong the inevitable?

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

been thinking bout getting older and boozing/other shit toooo much. toned it down in the last two years. i still go out and see my fave. djs all the time. just take everything in moderation. when my body tells me "Al....go home, thats enough" i listen. helps me keep my energy levels up and still be able to go out late, and do what i have to do the next day (if anything).

#480134Post 22 of 42

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

well, that's what aging is all about...you're body just gets older and can't take the shit it used to...especially alc and drugs.

#480139Post 23 of 42

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

well im only 23. figured i'd start taking it in moderation before i burn myself out. i want to be in my 30-40's and still party like im 20 :)

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

i think i'll be good. on the regular, i'll have 2-3 drinks TOPS. its the really big events that i wait and look forward to for a few weeks that kill me. Thats what what i save the binge drinking and party favors for

#480175Post 26 of 42

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

^^^ exactly. Us old men need to take it easy. Nothing worse then a pissed off wife and crying baby, in addition having a jack hammer on top of your head. And roofers. yes. it is not fun.

#480177Post 27 of 42

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

Yea...getting older sure takes it toll. I'm 33 now and really try to pay close attention to my limits...otherwise its days before total recovery.

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

haha.

#480185Post 29 of 42

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

really takes a toll on how old you LOOK too. A friend of my sisters is in her late 20's now. she was SUCH a soundfactory/jonathan peters head (bahahahhaha, i crack on her all the time btw, puke). Do a Jar of K every weekend for 4 yrs and watch how a beautiful 20sumthing ends up having more wrinkles than Estelle Getty.

#480189Post 30 of 42

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

no "beauty rest" when you are that shit. up till you crash. or knock yourself out.

#480246Post 31 of 42

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

I'm 28 know, and I don't like the idea of throwing up and hangovers. I guess I'm growing up. Finally. So I will have 3 drinks tops on one special night monthly.

#480291Post 32 of 42

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

Definitely don't throw down like I used to, but I'm OK with that. I used to go out pretty much every night in some form or another, but my current practice of not getting blasted every night has been good for my liver, my wallet, and has probably helped me in other ways, too. There was a time when all but the most wicked evening would roll right off of me, but I just can't bounce back like I used to -- a few shots, and my next day is toast.

#480374Post 34 of 42

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

I'm 28 and have noticed it takes me A LOT longer to recover after a long night of clubbing than it did even 2-3 years ago. Plus, my motivation to go out at all is a fraction of what it used to be. Kind of depressing.

#480394Post 35 of 42

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

Fuck it, just go out and party!

(I'm 30 btw :))

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

i cant hang like i used to .. i remember when i got divorced (yes i was married for five years) , i was going out 5 nights a week and still working, of course i would be falling a sleep at work, but i was still doing it... now a days i will go out once a week if i have a reason too... usually by 4 am im done... i think music has a lot to do with it.. its easier to stay up untill 8-10 if good music is pumping.. as far as hangovers go.. there pretty much the same...

i'll definetly be the old dude in the club bouncing around, hopefully with a wife that enjoys the same punping good music!!!!

#480470Post 37 of 42

Re: going clubbing and getting older?

it just takes me for ever to recover. If I go out hard on Saturday, I am still not right on Monday. I need to get in shape

 I think sightless pretty much hit the nail on the head. Only other thing I think makes a difference is change. I always go out on Saturday nights. Once in a while I will decide to stay in. The next week it takes much longer to recover from my activities. If you are doing things in a pattern your body adapts, if you surprise your body it has to adjust. This also applies to excersize, eating, suppliments, ect. Just try working the same muscles everyday. The first few days your really sore but after your body adapts you don't even get sore. Now if you randomize your schedule you'll notice that you get sore more often.
