I just payed $3.07 / gallon then drove up the street and it was $2.71 / gallon. I felt gouged and it reminded me of what happened after 9/11 when gas shot up to $4.00 in some places. Is this happening everywhere else?

Came back from lunch break and on the way I seen gas was $ 3.09/ gal. Damn hurricanes.
Re: Gas Prices
No offense and i dont mean to sound Anti american but u guys charge by the Gallon in the states whilst europeans get raped on petrol per liter over here..
american SUVs are a main cause of this problem... i just wish they thought about this 20-30 years ago and the oil supplys wouldnt be in as much shit for everyone around the world..

It is a little different in this case, due to the refinaries basically being shut down. The 9/11 example was just panic driven price gouging. However, either way you slice it we are getting the shaft.
This Katrina disaster will have aftershocks for quite some time. A major US city getting whiped out will have noticable ramaifications all over our economy, be prepared for deferred costs effecting things like insurance rates.
Re: Gas Prices
i'm about to pump gas into a drum before gas prices increase to $5/gal.
^^^ I heard that some are speculating that they will indeed hit 5/gal because of the hurricane.

What we care for is how much sh$t we can carry around with us. I mean, we are not skinny people, we are FAT, lazy and we love it. SUV is like having your room on wheels and we love it, we even have TV, kick ass sound system in these SUVs so we can sleep and hangout inside these things. yip! It?s your bedroom on wheels
Re: Gas Prices
 This is the first time i've heard the metric system arguement.
Re: Gas Prices
Metric system rules!
Re: Gas Prices
i saw one at 2.80 the other day, and it was at a station that was normally one of the cheaper ones. then up the road it was 2.54. ridiculous
Re: Gas Prices
I got this in the mail today and think it really fits what we are speaking about here.
We need to tell these gas companies what to do with their high gas prices. There really is NO NEED for the prices to be this high. And if you come up with one...well to me that is just an excuse in favor of the gas companies to charge even more.
THIS SHIT NEEDS TO STOP!!!!!!!!!!
PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDAR FILL UP ON THE 6TH OF SEPTEMBER 2005 AND NO GAS ON THE 7TH, 8TH, OR 9TH 2005 ? TIRED OF THE GAS PRICES?? Let's all stand up and make a statement - we won't pay these prices.
Please fill up on the 6th of September 2005 and don't buy gas on the 7th, 8th or 9th. Have a great week! ? Years back on April 30,1999 a gas-out was staged across Canada and the U.S. to bring the price of gas down, and it worked. It's time to do something again. Only this time lets make it for three days instead of just one. The so-called oil cartel decided to slow production to drive up gasoline prices.
Let's see how many Canadian/American people we can get to band together for a three-day period in September, NOT TO BUY ANY GASOLINE, during those three days. LETS HAVE A GAS OUT----September 7th, 2005 TO September 9th, 2005. Buy what you need before these dates-- or after-- but none during this time period. If you want to help, just send this to everyone you know and ask them to do the same. We brought the prices down once before, and we can do it again. Come on North America lets stand together to make a difference!
Even if you receive this 100 times keep passing it around, this way you know everyone is being informed and no one will forget!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just got off the phone with my girlfriend... she said they're shutting down gas stations around atlanta because of some ruptured pipeline in new orleans. so the city is about to run out of gas. :? we're not the biggest city in the country, but with 4million+ people, there's gonna be another Watts incident if there's no gas in the morning. not good.
anyone else hear reports like this?

im with you here. SUVs should only be sold to those who actually need them i.e. construction companies, and people with family in wheelchairs. my mother cries about gas, but yet she still loves her G500.
i agree with that too. a lot of people in this city drive SUV's cos they look so much cooler in them. especially when they're on their cell phones racing down I-85 at 80 mph. if i had my way, fat black women wouldnt be allowed within 500 yards of an SUV.
Re: Gas Prices
In Spain it cost around a euro and 20 cents is a lot but what can you do , you have to use the car anyway d
Re: Gas Prices
Guys u really have no idea the difference in how many 5-6liter suvs u have in the states compared to the rest of europe. when i was living there i couldnt get over it...
sure whats the most sold car in the world... i think its the ford F-series pickup's.. i could be wrong but i heard that somewhere... it sounds harsh but i think people should have to meet certain criteria to buy an SUV/pickup nowadays in the states.
put it this way i recently traveled 650km across spain in one of these

i did it in 6hours and i spent a total of about ?45 euro to get me there... id say the same journey would cost about $150 in a SUV... it just seems crazy to me..
i mean im no hippy and id rather people spent oil money on sportscars than SUVs.. at least they'll be getting somewhere fast..

Re: Gas Prices
hmm.. the probable effects of green house gases affecting weather which in turn raises the price of gas/oil/petroleum/deisel the main contributer of emmisions . which in turn reduces consumer and comercial consumption .. nature is one clever bitch ..
Re: Gas Prices
had a local gas company convert to the ethanol type (10%) which is about as 'pure' as you can get by car standards vs. cleaner burning styles.
Gas station by me (of said company) was $2.40 there on Sunday; $2.50 on Monday, then $2.99 yesterday  , now it's $2.92. And that used to be THE cheapest gas around by FAR...lines would be spilling out into the street. Of course they probably could only purchase so much to start, hence needing to drive up the price initially. Bad timing on that count.
After it went up on Tuesday, the grocery store (Stop & Shop) several hundred feet down had it going for $2.49 regular...local police had to direct traffic because THAT'S how bad it was....yeeeeesh.
As for Atlanta, here was one idea off a report..
At the Chevron gas station at 10th and Spring streets in Midtown, drivers were limited to buying $10 of gas which was selling for $2.99 a gallon. A sign inside the station said "Due to fuel shortage, we are having to restrict use."
Although situations will be in flux quite a bit over the next several days, I too, heed a possible Martin-type effect...maybe not to the extent of the 70's, but some areas will at best have to limit consumer intake because they themselves won't be getting much shipment-wise.
History always has a tendency to somewhat repeat itself, no? :?
sounds about right. that gas station you mentioned is just a few blocks from my gf's work. nutz! cant believe its come to this.
Re: Gas Prices
Time to get rid of the suv and get a moped....

the cost of my truck and the expense of driving it i can live with, it's my choice.
-
i need it for work, a 4 banger tin can just won't cut it.
-
if i pull up to a construction site to talk to a contractor in a fucking Mini Cooper, i'd not only lose a sale, i'd probably get my ass kicked.
-
soccer moms with SUV's are who you're talking about chief, and i agree, they suck.

Re: Gas Prices
4. soccer moms with SUV's are who you're talking about chief, and i agree, they suck.
not neccessarily. some of the cows i see driving around in Escalades are driving in them cos they have the most bling of anything else on the road.
its all about bling appearance here in africa junior.
walk. you fat fucks.
damn right. i moved downtown and walk to work. i have put on about 2500 miles on my car since feburary. i only drive to the store, or to get to friends/clubs out of town. have to fill the tank about once a month.
i do miss the good ol days when i would get bored and drive just to drive, but not anymore. gotta stick it to the man. if he gets greedy. i take my dollars away.
 nice.
i usually huff gasoline to get high, i think i might need to switch to glue for a few weeks damn. :(
tittles. if you drink bong water it gets you high.
ice bongs :D
i am not sure what you are talking about. i have to go to church.
Re: Gas Prices
yeah jenks thats fair enough... that was one of my points..
u need ur ride for work which is cool... as u said the Suvs r bullshit if there just used for Moms with nothing else todo than pick up there suckie ass kids from school.
Re: Gas Prices
like a dumbass, i had the opportunity to fill up monday nite after the devistation, but failed to, then tues, totally forgot about it, only to find today it was about 20 cents higher than monday. but oddly enough, the gas stations are here are trying to hold the line in order to not lose business over a cent or 2. so most places around here may vary by a nickle or dime at most.
& im supposed to (per the manual) put premium in 'er, BUT i dont give 2 shits about any arguements about offsetting the timing due to lower grade fuel, i have been on the cheapest shit i can find for the last few months. i dont run my car hard anyways so the loss in horsepower i feel is minimal.
guys, a $.10 raise is only $1/10 gallons. if you guys can't afford spending an extra $1.50 in gas, quit buying your starbucks once a week, cut your smoking down by a pack, take your lunch to work once a week, or buy one less dimebag than you normally would. seriously... a $.50/increase in gas is only the cost of lunch once a week.
the cost of gas could raise the price on a shit ton of stuff
and your avatar is dancing to my tunes. thats cool
Re: Gas Prices
The government should step in if gas prices continue to increase. Better yet, they should probably step in now and put limits on gas prices.
