How do you listen to your music?

Since the first time that I had a graphic equaliser with presets I've always gone straight to "Rock" and left it at that because that gives a bass heavy sound.

Yesterday I had a play around. Electonica sounds a little flat to me

But now I think that Techno sounds much better than rock - for what we listen to at any rate.

Have I been doing it wrong all this time? How do other people like their levels?

Re: How do you listen to your music?

The only EQing I can imagine myself doing is to tweak the levels for the ear/headphones I'm using, and then leave it alone. Not adjust levels for different genres. EQing to me is for compensating or tweaking the sound quality of the 'phones, not the music.

Re: How do you listen to your music?

In my mercedes I tinker with the EQ, since I have upgraded the stereo, otherwise music can sometimes be slightly too much bass or treble.

Outside of my car, I don't mess with the EQ, although I am the type of person who likes to.

When I was younger we would always create a gradual v or u shape with the EQ during our raver days. Essentially high highs and high lows and lower mids. Not sure why, we all did that though .

Re: How do you listen to your music?

That's basically what the "Rock" setting generally is and why I default to it. No more though...

I listen to mine with drink and drugs. And no EQing, obviously.

Re: How do you listen to your music?

No EQ'ing generally.

That Techno Preset is stupid. Why not just have 3k set at -1db?

Re: How do you listen to your music?

Hey Redrock,

Here is the product link for the unit I have. https://www.sony.com/electronics/walkman/nwz-a17

Unfortunately these have been out of production for quite a while.
Apparently not much market anymore due to everyone using their phones :(

I love it, has over 192gb of space (with sdcard) and play just about every music file in superb quality.
Battery last around 30 hours on one charge

Re: How do you listen to your music?

On my PC I use the built in windows 10 player, I quite like it actually. No EQ. No problems playing FLAC.

on my iphone I've got this

https://www.neutronmp.com/

plays FLAC quite nicely and it gives way more control over the stock player. No EQ on that.

I've got a pair of wireless headphones 4-5 months back and no way I am going back to wired. They sound very nice and I play with the EQ on those,. currently this
