dj's need glasses ... fucked off with the growing trend of dj's doing the breaks thing . if they looked beyond the first 10 rows of kids looking up to them with love and wonder begging for the beats to kick in .. and see in the distance the fed up faces of the adults who love music and prefer the build up of fine progressive .. maybe they'd realise letting the night flow is what we realy want .

breaks
Re: breaks
Prog breaks can be great, believe me. At least, I prefere breaks above the minimal techy stuff of this year. Hey, you won't say me you dislike breaks like Luke Chable ones?
Re: breaks
chable does better tracks and remixes than sets .. but all i am saying is too many dj's think they are teasing and toying with the crowd knocking beats off at the start of everytrack for 30 secs or more instead of letting a mood build ..
Re: breaks
zabiella can spin some good breaks, luke chable as well in my opinion, to set a mood in a progressive set u need break beat too, sasha use to play before at every 3 or 4 tracks a break beat track, and the sets sounded really good. i believe djs use break beat tracks to go to higher or lower beats, breack beat its like an interlude in a progressive set
Re: breaks
a good dj should know his vinyls and know how to work up the beats smoothly .. just knocking the beats off in order to change is either poor craftsmanship or not the reason he's doing it ..
Re: breaks
i'm not pro, it is my opinion based on what i listened, that in a progressive set, break beats sound good , and, the beats before and after the breaks track, sometime sound different.
hopefully this gets ugly.
welcome to MS!!
Re: breaks
if u want to wave ure arms about in the air and gurn at the person next to u then breaks are for u.. i grew out of that 12 years ago
Re: breaks
javascript:emoticon(':smack:')
some people don't understand good breaks
Re: breaks
in a two hour set 3 breaks is good ( reminds me to go bar three times so mouth don't feel like i been blowing the sandman ) what i'm getting at is going to a prog club and having ure night fucked up by some git doing it b4 every track
Re: breaks
ffs trying to kick off with u guys who can't dance . i need to get my posts up cos fucked off with speeds i get cattaneos sets from slsk at . breaks = wankas.... breaks dj's = biggest wankers of all
Re: breaks
Interesting thoughts.
House or prog or what ever genre of dance music that has a straight 4/4 beat is basically the only type of music that has a beat like that.
Rock, hip hop, disco, metal, pop, country, blah blah blah, all have a form of broken beat. So why is it suddenly boring to hear a broken beat in a dance set?
Re: breaks
i suppose the difference is .. is whether u go to a club and listen to the music or u go to a club and feel the music .. rythm is what makes dance music what it is and when u break the rythm u lose what it's all about
Re: breaks
Try saying that over there
Personally I love nothing more than some hardcore breakz. But each to their own I guess.
looks like smart bastard will just have to get used to it
Re: breaks
i don't want to get used to it .. went to opening parties for ibiza and music was shyte ( behrouz bing the exception ) and i neva want to get used to holidays bing fucked up
you still have a long way to go.....try and change the topic
Re: breaks
To make fun of another genre, which you don't like, is ignorant. Breaks and Progressive can go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly. Who are you trying to kid here?
i love the funk 8)

I'm Sorry all you Tiesto Fans out there, I've been Ignorant. As well, to all you happy hardcore e-tard candy ravers, well...I've been Ignorant too.
On topic though, not being a huge breaks fan, i reckon it depends on location. In my opinion the lot or style of breaks in North America (more so in T.O.) of what i've been exposed too are shite. However on the other hand Sydney and London for that matter have a very refreshing breaks scene, one that is very intertwined w/ quality house music. Yes there are poor artists, but this holds true in every genre of music out there on the planet.

Hmmm... Semantics are a bitch. What bart_smastard is saying here is that Breaks are childish noise. Hardly a valid arguement if you ask me.

Re: breaks
It's not how clever, or how complex the music is - it's what moves your feet. This is why I've always continued to listen to the music that I have even when none of the crowd that I've been hanging with at the time have been interested.
I like a good Breaks mix - Zabiela and Sasha have done some spankers and I don't understand how anyone can say that they have no place with Progressive.
Re: breaks
I was at tangled in manchester at the weekend and both Nick Warren and Adam Freeland were playing. Nick played 12:30 - 3:30, adam freeland was 3-5. Freeland really bored the hell out of me after a really good set from nick warren. The breaks (especially late in the night when the tempo goes up and up) all sounded the same.
Re: breaks
i will let this matter drop after this reply .. I AM NOT SAYING THAT I DON'T LIKE TRACKS WITH BREAKS IN THEM . almost all progressive "last track of set type records" have a break in them . my problem is with dj's pissing about at the start of each track for 30 secs instead of just letting things flow .one of my fave tracks eva (alive g-pal strings of life mix ) has a 20 second break in it . if 30 secs of no beats while someone tries to show he can do the technical things sounded good then all tracks would start that way
THEY DON'T
siad my piece i'll now shut up

Re: breaks
yeah bart! i'm totally w/ you mate. you're stright up on it.
this whole breakbeat movement is getting bloody annoying. all you see is Breakbeat this, evil nine that, blah blah blah.
i mean, what happened to the good ole days when trance ruled the club floors. bring back the days of gatecrashers! now that was some fun times! I'm sure Bart will agree that tiesto's new album is some of his finest work EVER!
let's quit kidding ourselves: it's all about Electro and Trance.
Re: breaks
breaks rule!! especially later in da nite when you are wearing down 8)
Re: breaks
don't know if iv'e made this clear yet but it's not the break thats in the track i object to it's the twat at the decks thinking he's summat stopping the beats and fiddling with his nobs
Re: breaks
oh gotcha  what tards
Re: breaks
Sounds to me like you're speaking of the breakdowns in a song and not the beat. I too dislike long breakdowns, and will not play a song with a long breakdown in one of my sets. I like to keep it grooving.
Re: breaks
oh right.....i completely missed the point here then. I like the breakdowns, give youtime for a swig of water and the the bit where the beats kick back in is always a great moment as it gives themmore emphasis
Re: breaks
i still think trance is where it's at.
thanks the links!!!111

how does one play breaks before every track? not sure what your on about here dude.........
Re: breaks
^^^^I like break downs, what do you think is too long of a break down?

You are an absolute retard. It is idiots like you who keep the scene loaded with bog standard prog fodder because you lack the inisght to see where prog is going. To suggest that the likes of Habersham, Chable, Hybrid, Shiloh, Evil Nine, Jacob Todd, Nic Muir Etc Etc are missing something by "just knocking the beats off," is akin to accusing Albert Einstein of being short sighted about that whole gravity thing. Tosser

retard .eistein was about light speed/time and theories of splitting the atom it was newton and gravity .. ure education in science is as piss poor as ure education in music . and keeping with space theme id'e rather ride the up and up rocket of progression than the see saw of breaks (<-- don't know if u call them that in the states) ..bog standard prog.. maybe u better tune into a cattaneo set some time
Re: breaks
^^^ you really might wanna spend some time re-reading your posts before you submit them, that thing was riddled with typos.
Re: breaks
missed an "n" out of einstein .. ffs one word wrong in 40 .. u not read many posts i presume
