Man shot dead by police on Tube Stockwell Tube station Police have cordoned off a 200-metre area around the station A man has been shot dead by police at Stockwell Tube station in south London, as officers hunt four bombing suspects.

Passenger Mark Whitby told BBC News he had seen a man of Asian appearance shot five times by "plain-clothes police officers" with a handgun.

BBC home affairs correspondent Danny Shaw said there were unconfirmed reports officers at the scene had said the man shot was the Oval bomb suspect.

And armed police have cordoned off an area of Harrow Road in west London.

Looked like another suicide bomber - but at this time tension can be high and wrong choices are easily made... We'll see what happens in the investigation. This concerns me:
They pushed him to the floor, bundled on top of him and unloaded five shots into him
Sure there was a reason but I'd like to hear it... London is my hometown and I feel so sad about whats happenning... f.

From what I gather, they had been tracking this guy and had ID'd him as one of the suspects (as opposed to profiling or something), which makes the fact that they killed him really odd. I would think he would have more value to them alive.

The story is still so fresh and facts continue to come in. I've going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that either the chronology is incorrect (i.e., that he wasn't shot after he was captured) or that there was something else that we're missing...

this isn't 24! he was wearing a winter jacket on the tube...suspected to be carrying a bomb belt.

5 shots were fired because the police were using low-velocity .22 bullets. you need to fire off a few shots to make sure. all head shots too. the guy was tracked and suspected to be armed. of course i hope they didn't screw up.

Guess what, they did.
They will also be asking why someone lying on the floor and apparently offering no resistance was shot, according to eyewitnesses, five times in the head.
Re: Man shot dead by police in London

I am not sure why he was running. No doubt the Police are on edge, but to blast five rounds into a head ... well I would think a shot in the shoulder would be enough to put a man down. Perhaps he had a "her-O" syndrome ... either case terrible news. Reminds of the little baby girl that got blasted here in USA ...

fuckwads. :?

guess the police aren't too edgy these days...

its been all over the news here, pretty fucked up, cant believe that the police would be so reckless / careless. Why the fuck aren't local law enforcement agencies working with the intelligence community on profiling these terrorists instead of looking at circumstantial visual assessments of a situation and blowing people in the heads.

This is sort of like the NYC cops who dropped 44 rounds into that Jamaican immigrant because he had in his hand what appeared to be a gun when it was in fact a pager..... unecessary use of force and liberal use of judgement

Re: Man shot dead by police in London

it has to be a tough time over there. the cops made a huge mistake but they're pretty much in a no win situation. everytime something happens, the public wonders why they didn't do something. when they do something, they kill an innocent man.

this is usually called inefficiency

Re: Man shot dead by police in London

It's tragic that he was innocent... but why was he running away? In this new climate if the police say stop, you stop. :?

Visa issues. He had an expired Visa and thought he was being hunted down because of that. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4713753.stm

Re: Man shot dead by police in London

This is a tragedy, definitely, but for fucks sake, keep your stuff in order, and dont run from the cops if you havent done anything wrong. if he had a visa and it was just expired, get it sorted. Don't ignore the police telling you to stop, especially in a city that has just been hit twice by terrorists.

Not by any means condoning the amount of force, but you know on the other hand, had he just ran off and got away, and next week his face is caught on camera getting on a bus with a ruck sack full of bombs.. then what?

Re: Man shot dead by police in London

it is a hard line. but you are correct. it was not like they just picked out this guy and shot him. he was given orders many times ... and just because you have xx visa does not give you any right to run. it was a stupid mistake on his part, it cost him his life. On the other hand ... why don't cops fire rounds into legs and arms ... that does put people down ... :|

#453046Post 20 of 21

Re: Man shot dead by police in London

yes, i agree, a shot in the arm, leg, shoulder would most likely have been sufficient, and had he been a terrorist, taking him alive would have been better. But I cant even begin to think what the mind set of any law enforcement official is right now. Think of how the police must have been and still are affected in NY after 9-11? were they even going to think twice?

it is difficult, they need to be as professional and mentally stable as possible, but they are human, and trying to protect innocent people.. and unfortunately another innocent person has died.

Re: Man shot dead by police in London

the lesson here is.....

don't get nervous and run from the police after shoplifting a heavy coat in the middle of July.
