My beef about live 8

So Live 8 is about to descend on Philadelphia this weekend and its all people are talking about in the office.

I polled them and not a single person actually new what the point of Live 8 was other than it was a free concert. Some said "It's for some charity or something."

Is this just us being typical oblivious Americans? Or has Live 8 failed to really get its message across? Do you guys think the concerts will actually have the desired result?

To a sense yes. just b/c the people in your office don't know, does not mean that a lot of the people attended don't. I think it is a good thing and I would attend if I live closer to one of the events. But is it going to change anything probably not. I am glad someone is trying to raise money to help africa but will that be enough. I think the biggest thing this concert is trying to prove that everyone around the world needs to stay united and help everyone out. My only question is that how much has Bob Geldoff donated to africa in the last 10 yr or any other famous person. Personal donations are just as good as gov't ones.

LOL

Man...they WILL know as soon as they attend to that free concert ;-) And hten they're trapped, and have to donate and sign petitions and stuff to get out.

Re: My beef about live 8

Additionally, I read in the paper they are expecting over 2,000,000 people to flood into the city. To accomidate this influx they have arranged for 400 porta poties.

That means you will be sharing 1 toliet with 5000 of your closest friends. Anyone bring air freshner?

Re: My beef about live 8

i just want to see them put two pictures up when 50cent is playing.

 1. his album cover of get rich or die trying,

 2. a picture of an 80 pound kid from ethiopia looking in a dumpster for some scraps of food.

Re: My beef about live 8

woah, didnt mean for that to be funny. someone talked about that over at b-rock. think about it, a man who is all about being fake in order to get everything that is unneccessary, while these people starve while trying to hold onto thier culture. but dont worry Earth, we will fix it.................

#444377Post 9 of 36

Re: My beef about live 8

I don't think 50 cent is being fake. I sincerly believe he wants to get rich or die trying. I also think that the fact that he seems about as sharp as a ball is sincere as well "know what I'm saying?"

Re: My beef about live 8

the man wears a bulletproof vest while on stage. his label could tell him that american culture is changing and ask him to do country rap and he would. thats what i think the underlying problem with africa is. the world has become so obsessed with gaining personal wealth rather than having pride in your culture/country/town that we left behind the areas that hold those values (mid east and africa, as well as some southern asain areas).

#444393Post 11 of 36

I'd vote, but I don't even know who Live 8 is

#444394Post 12 of 36

If garbage was a brick, 50 Cent would be the Great Wall of China.

#444416Post 13 of 36

i think all new rap is garbage anyways. So sure.

IMO they should just give thw whole day to Floyd, that would be something that we would all remember on a day when world poverty is brought to our atention.

#444552Post 19 of 36

Re: My beef about live 8

you know pink floyd have had the anit establishment/pro peace message, i was referring to maybe a new song or something that will summize the event. they , of all the artists involved are most capable.

just remember "

"" the lunatic is on grass" with a pic of bushh SR in the backround.

Re: My beef about live 8

WTF? I turned on my Radio 1 stream and they had Snoop rapping some disgusting shit and now they have Kanye West on. WTF?

#445347Post 22 of 36

Re: My beef about live 8

I thought Snoop was one of the best performances of the day except for Robbie Williams who ran away with it, Pink Floyd were mediocre, don't understand the hype around them tbh.

#445356Post 23 of 36

Re: My beef about live 8

The best part about Floyd IMO is when they jam out at the end of a song. Of course thats when the TV coverage went to commercial so we missed the best part of their performance.

#445358Post 24 of 36

^ I will agree. The floyd reunion was awesome. To bad it was on mtv though. Way to much talking and comericials.

You can go to this link http://music.channel.aol.com/live_8_concert/live_now were they are looping all the feeds commercial free.

Here's a link where you can download individual sets. http://www.projectnothing.com/ It's a leftie blog but please don't be rude to the host.

The internets is a small world. I thought you were a leftie cause I got your link from Eschaton. The folks from this site are cool for the most part but some do need to be reminded of their manners.

Re: My beef about live 8

What is this place, anyway?

And yeah, what I do is go around the 'net seeking different opinions from all realms of thinking. And I like to try to understand why, say, eschaton is so angry with the president and someone like Glenn Reynolds is so content with the president. (speaking in incredibly broad terms)

If you read my site you'll see I'm critical of both sides. At any rate, this place seems cool. Maybe I'll stick around. :)
What is this place, anyway?
This place started out as a John Digweed fan site in 2002 but it's become much more than that. But basically we're all into dance music so you'll see a lot of commenting about that. They do have a thread about politics so I guess you can read that and see were most are coming from. The site manager (Encryption) is a very cool guy and I think you'll like it here. Welcome and enjoy your stay. :)

hi Nathan

#445528Post 32 of 36

Re: My beef about live 8

Live 8 is to make the people feel like they are actually doing something. When the reality is that erasing the debt of Africa and poor nations has already begun. The artists say it is them that is "creating awareness" about countries in poverty when the reality is that we have known the entire time. Live 8 and G 8 for that matter are just a bunch of bullshit.

#445530Post 33 of 36

Re: My beef about live 8

I think for the people who already know what's going on there's nothing new to be gained from Live8. Except maybe the sickening hypocrisy of some of the "stars" (Anyone see Jo Whiley interview Madonna - quality!)

For the younger people it might actually achieve it's aim of raising awareness, so for that it's a good thing.

#445543Post 34 of 36

Re: My beef about live 8

meh, awareness = stugots, they could have sold tickets to those concents and actually bought those kids a meal; AND on a seperate note, meanwhile there are thousands of underprivledged kids living right in Philly.....

2 mil??!! Damn, I just witnessed a Superbowl and it didn't bring in that many. This thing is bigger than the Superbowl??!!!
IMO they should just give thw whole day to Floyd
True that...Pink Floyd should have a 4 hour extended set. Hell, I'd be there for that...and my awareness would be raised exponentially...........on how much Pink Floyd rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :Respect: :RightOn:

Both of those statements are debatable.
