Springtime was always my favorite time of year, A time for lovers holding hands in the rain Now springtime only reminds me of Tracy's tears Always cry for love, never cry for pain

Right, true heavyweights. Bowie's death still feels strange.

yes.

I saw him once in London Wembly Arena and once at Radio City Music Hall.

He's no Bowie - but for a decade or so he was untouchable. Musical prodigy. Just weird.

"My Name is Prince and I am Funky."

Re: Prince is dead

"Nothing Compares To You" is an awesome song, meaningful for me & my hubby. May he Rest In Perfect Peace!! I remember when he became "The artist formally known as Prince" (it was funny) such a free thinker

"Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today To get through this thing called life."

"There are no accidents. And if there are, it's up to us to look at them as something else. And that bravery is what creates new flowers."

"Yeah, everybody's got a bomb, we could all die any day. But before I'll let that happen, I'll dance my life away."

But he seemed like a true artist with a good heart.

Re: Prince is dead

O'Connor sung it, Prince wrote it. At the time it was released (1990), it was pretty unique for that era. You were likely too young. It won MTV Music Video of the year!

I always loved When You Were Mine, but Cindy Lauper sang it better.

Re: Prince is dead

florida i think you must be about 5 years to young, becuz prince was the hottest thing in the world in the early 80s. you could not go anywhere without hearing his music....calling him an icon is an understatement.

pretty kool that just last weekend prince threw an all night dance party for anyone who wanted to come by his pad for 10 bux. how awesome is that.

#1762997Post 19 of 33

Re: Prince is dead

84-87, he was the biggest name in music. Despite his lack of quality control and the amount of records he released during that period, we must not forget all the songs he wrote and produced for his harem of strumpets, Apollonia, Jill Jones, Sheila E, Vanity, Martika. Most of them charted and had memorable promo videos.

All that followed by the global success of Nothing Compares 2 U, sung by Sinead O'Connor - a Prince cover.

Re: Prince is dead

Huge, huge influence on dance music in the 80's with a pop sensibility. He mixed funk, soul, sometimes gospel and rock all into an intoxicating mix.

Dude had his fair share of misses, including a slump in the late 90's until 2010, but the catalogue of music this guy leaves behind is likely to be mind blowing - if the story about the vault of unreleased music, songs, lyrics and all kinds of media.

I wasn't a huge fan, but the guy was crazy talented - could play all his own instruments on every album, was deemed by many the one of the greatest guitar players that have walked the planet and could change his style and reinvent himself every album. Dude was a bona fide rock star.

^Yea!

An amazing thing I read about him was that he was born with epilepsy and had many seizures, but when he was 10 years old he told his mom he was going to stop having seizures. She asked how he knew that & he said "an angel told me." and his epilepsy ended. He was also a great basketball player later in school. Incredible life.
