Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

This one is certainly the most "home listening friendly" out of the series..

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal
So if you had to rate the Live In series in order of preference. how would you?
i was thinking about this just today

 1. London
 2. Slovenia/Argentina
 3. Miami/South Beach
 4. Montreal
 5. Cordoba
 6. Toronto (love the King Unique remix tho^^)

btw did anyone notice that the opening track of Toronto CD2 was played by sasha in his panorama bar set in 2011 (!)

OMG Slovenia sucks on so many levels!!

 1. Slovenia/Argentina
Really? at the same place? I mean, There is no relationship between them, Slovenia is like hard techno and Argentina could be more like London or Miami, sounds very different for me, anyway. Slovenia is in the last place for me.

#1763096Post 205 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

Argentina would be the one I like the least. The other ones I don't know, I have to see how Montreal ages

#1763118Post 206 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

Me too, spliiting it over two different sets was not a good concept at all. The music wasnt all that great on either

i know they are quite opposite in style. nonetheless i think that both are on a very high level. Isnt CD2 of Slovenia the vortex everyone talks about? no one seems to like it tho - did he play too hard?

If it's about the missing hours from the Montreal CD, I'll be disappointed and won't understand why the hype.

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

I've never heard another set with so much tension in it .. its like watching a huge wobbly bubble that is on the verge of bursting for hours. I guess with decades of experience you can achieve that level of control.

#1763572Post 216 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

The first two cds are, probably, one of the best two things I have heard in the last five years. at least.

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

In its simpliest form its true

Regardless its just fucking beautiful

as are the surrounding tunes of said track

after going thru the set quite a few times, this has to be the favourite part of what is currently on offer

the first 2 CDs are brilliant as is CD4 but this is just beautiful peak time digweed

mini vortex yo

tracks

 1. Marc Romboy - Counting Comets (Ruede Hagelstein Remix)
 2. Lee Van Dowski - If Only Jack Was
 3. Simon Garcia - Ataraxia

22 minutes worth that is just perfection

Alex Ferguson couldnt have managed them better

all his long sets have them Beiruit, Fabric and the others that i forget at this moment

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

This is awesome. Thank you for the ride! : )

#1768830Post 229 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

I listened to this in its entirety over the past week on my commute to work.

As a whole set it is amazing. How he keeps that level of groove for that long is special indeed. There are some very, very good tracks in there as well.

I think that CDs 3 and 4 lost me a bit, but that is only because the other CDs are so good. I think Cds 5 and 8 are the pick of the bunch though.

I'm not sure we'll ever see/hear something like this again.

Love that one.. I think he played it on the beach in Mexico earlier this year it was perfect

#1768971Post 234 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

Is it true he's releasing a new Fabric record? None the less, I'd agree with most comments here as this is another level of mixing, perfect in all means of a live set.

#1769000Post 235 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

a Fabric release would be great!

I guess he is heading back to Stereo for their 17th birthday.. very tempting

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

Another great night at Stereo last weekend .. just recovering from the travel. John played 4am til mid-day, really enjoyed the 2nd and 3rd hours of the early part, full use of that amazing custom analogue sound system - really layering the melody music seamlessly, amazing how he mixes tracks together that others would find impossible. It was all new music, pretty much the first time most of it had been played out. There's a 27 min fb Live on John's FB .. arms still aching now.

Also a great warm up from Ostrich, who really laid the foundation. In days when many complain about opening DJs not having the taste or less is more approach, Ostrich did a tremendous job. Fantastic vibe and three stunning lower tempo numbers to finish allowing the main act to go where they wanted.
