He is coming to my city this friday and I really need a good reason for some friends to go with me. They are not into electronic music like me, but they like good parties.

I saw him last summer and I loved his set (Mint @ Punta del Este, Uruguay)

So, can you help me? :)

Re: Anthony Pappa

I saw him in Houston @ Hiperia (back when it was open) and had the time of my life. The man mixed his last two records without headphones and then after a minute or so of silence he drops Way out West - Intensify pt1.

:Twilo:

Go see him and drag your friends with you!

Re: Anthony Pappa

And how much did you pay?

This time it's ONLY 200 pesos (8 dollars)

And the first time I saw him, I payed 1 dollar... amazing, and my friends say that's too high :?

#439816Post 4 of 40

Re: Anthony Pappa

I paid $35. A fucking combo meal cost $8. Go see him!

#439822Post 5 of 40

give them a copy of his balance cds. they'll want to go!

#439833Post 6 of 40

Shit, only 8 bucks? You can't buy a damn stick of gum for 8 bucks now.

Re: Anthony Pappa

I think evey compilation he makes is a winner no doubt, but every time I've seen him like he just puts me to sleep, on the other hand man if its only 8 bucks go see him!!!

#439876Post 8 of 40

He used to be an amazing dj. Now I think he is rather boring. I have not heard a good set by him since 2002. He spins to many commercized tracks instead of the dark beats that he used to through down.

Re: Anthony Pappa

I tink he a good dj but nothing out of this world.. I would go see him if he was in my town..

#439931Post 10 of 40

He makes one a hell of a sausage-egg casserole.

Re: Anthony Pappa

I saw him at the Groove (Universal Studios - Orlando) about 3 years ago...rocked it.

Quivver was there the following weekend and ripped the roof off...amazing night. Too bad the Groove sold out and it's really lame there now.

No shite?

The Groove used to be pretty freakin cool back then huh? Digweed played there, but I missed it. I got the set, but the sound quality blows...sounds like someone had a mic on the floor.

#440033Post 17 of 40

yep i was at that digweed show too. i moved to orlando the week of the digweed party, so it was a nice welcome to town. we went there a lot of times after that. digs, pappa, quivver, cannalte. ICON was having some good parties back then too. afraid orlando's prime time is long gone, but its nice to see theres still some dank little parties happening from time to time.

here's a couple shots from the digweed party:

I must agree with you man.Anthony Pappa moved into another style.Don't really like it.I missed his deep, dark sets...!

not that you were saying it was, but the groove and ICON do not represent Orlandos prime time. that would be undoubtably the days of 'Ahhz' with Kimball/Cannalte before things shut down for good at 2 or 3.

those are awesome pics of that night, jib! i was there too. it was the first time i saw him in a regular night club til 2am type setting. i remember thinking that it was good to be able to see him but awfully non-underground.

After GU nubreed? He's released a CD called Resolutions, which most people found to be pretty average. CD2 was alright. And more recently he released a CD in the Balance series (number 6 I believe, the one after Holden) which is a pretty awesome CD and worth checking out. Not sure whether or not he's done a Renaissance since then, I don't think he has.

As for mixes I recommend you check out his 3 part mix from a set he played at Sweetchilli here in Sydney last year. You should be able to find it pretty easily on Soulseek.

#440177Post 22 of 40

Re: Anthony Pappa

^ I agree...the Sweetchili mix was strong

Re: Anthony Pappa

I'm constantly amazed by Pappa's mixing skills - i would love to be as dedicated as him behind the decks.

Never had the pleasure of seeing him live, but his mix cds are great-Resolutions wasnt well received and was a little dark, but balance 6 was awesome, especially CD1.Not too sure about this new classics thing he's releasing with Renaissance, but he's still a top dj in my book

Yes I think most people don't realize how talented he really is at mixing and tweaking the mixer. He is technically gifted and has some very deep mixes. 8)

Re: Anthony Pappa

He has his own style, he?s unique. Perfect mixes, he?s sets sound like one piece. Techno, break, very dark, love his music.

Re: Anthony Pappa

hell for 8 bucks i would be me 4 tickets so i can claim a nice big place to dance while i'm there.

A bunch of friends of mine went to that...said it was awesome. I saw him at Icon about 4 years ago and he rocked it. Always does IMO.

Let your friends hear Balance 006. Anyone who likes music and parties should be able to appreciate that piece of work.

Re: Anthony Pappa

The Groove used to be so freakin cool for big events...Mannequins too.

They don't even hold a candle to Beacham, Firestone, or the Edge though...

#443287Post 29 of 40

Re: Anthony Pappa

Living in FL for 75% of my life you would have figured I went to some of those, but I never did. A bunch of my friends in high school used to go to Firestone almost every weekend but they were hardcore goths and I wasn't about to go be goth with them somewhere.

#443346Post 30 of 40

Re: Anthony Pappa

8$ dude that should be a reason to go :)

#443380Post 31 of 40

Re: Anthony Pappa

Goths at Firestone? I've never saw any in there...

maybe they went to Tampa...they had a big goth scene back in the day...

DNA, Ritz, Evolutions, etc...

#443406Post 32 of 40

Re: Anthony Pappa

I'm pretty sure it was Firestone they were talking about. This would have been around '91-'93.

agree 100%. there is no other dj like him :!: The Best of Platipus,Choo Choo Records, Resolution > some of hes older but still amazing CDs. In a club Pappa is the KING. you have no change hehehe
when Pappa is on I think he is the best in the world!! quote]

Could not agree more. His Nubreed was the first and by far the best. Dark edgy pushing some extreme boundaries, the first time I ever heard anything verging on progressive breaks. Go to this show!

Yeah his mixing on the Nubreed is so deep!

has anyone said this yet?

http://www.discogs.com/release/97706

his best mix cd release imo. his nubreed was good also.

#443890Post 37 of 40

Re: Anthony Pappa

I saw him in New Orleans probably three+ years ago and he threw down like a mofo, even though he was having to play with somebody elses music (the airline lost his). Though I have to agree with an earlier statement that he seems to be much more 'commercialize' for lack of a better word I would still recommend him to be sure. In short spend the 8 bucks and get your ass over there.

#443912Post 38 of 40

Hello, it's me again! (the original creator of this topic :P)

So I went with my girlfriend and 2 friends, and we loved it! Excellent Progressive House with some fine tech & techno moments... great night!

Re: Anthony Pappa

Cool, glad to hear you all had a good time. :Bingo: Then again for $8, even if he sucked, I would have had a good time at the bar with all the money I saved.

Re: Anthony Pappa

That Ren 2 cd someone pointed out above is a very under-mentioned cd- check out his mixing between rabbit in the moon and pob&taylor - absolutely amazing energy in that mix. Also the mix from peter funk into breeder is absolutely mind-blowing

If you check the inlay from that cd it says it was mixed live from the liquid room sydney or something - proving once and for all his amazing skills behind the deck
