current favorites anyone?

Chimay has remained a consistent favorite of mine for the past 6 months or so and I don't see that changing any time soon. Always seems to have a taste that is better than I remember and just a great all around beer.

When I'm not feeling like something has intense as Chimay, this Royal Jamaican Ginger beer is excellent, especially when it's hot outside, or I have a lot to get done the next day. It's different than any other beer I've ever had and certainly feels healthier too.

Re: the new beer thread

I bet you shit your face off with that Ginger beer. When I drink Ginger Tea it makes me go 4x a day.

Re: the new beer thread

no - in fact, ginger has no effect like that on me at all. I put raw chunks of it in my smoothies even. Sounds like you may have an allergy

Re: the new beer thread

Maybe. But I love the stuff. I put it in my juices as well.

Allergic or not - it's going in.

Im so boring lately, I don't even have a new beer to talk about.

Re: the new beer thread

Different foods hell different beers have a different effect on my stomach. But anyway - I assume you've tried the 3 types of Chimay

Re: the new beer thread

Chimay was my gateway beer away from american adjunct lagers in college; it's a timeless classic.

Re: the new beer thread

I'm really partial to Belgian beer - but Ten Brewing Co just opened near where I live, has some pretty unique flavor a I've heard from friends. Trappists beers seem to be the ones I always go for though.

Re: the new beer thread

Has anybody tried mixing beers? This was a mix that a long time beer buddy recommended me to try.

Rasberry lambic + white allagash = bliss!!!

Re: the new beer thread

I've only tried mixing for a black and tan, or snake bite (cider and I forget) but never those 2, sounds really good though.

wow - thanks for these - i love lambic's actually but I haven't heard of these yet! I'd like to have a beer tasting this winter with some friends, these would be a great addition.

local place McMenamins makes something called a Rubinator (mix of Ruby Ale (raspberry ale) with a Terminator Stout), really good!

as for myself, I tend to stick to the local Oregon micro-brews.. Terminal Gravity (everything) Deschutes (black butte porter) pFreim (damn good saisan) Widmer (hefeweizen) Rogue (dead guy ale)

so many to choose from, love the NW :)

I remember an irish pub that served "half and half" beer. It was half Guiness (stout) and half Harp (lager). They didn´t mix in the glass, they stayed like two layers, that was cool. It was ok to me, but I haven´t drinked it again since then.

That's the Black & Tan. They stay apart because Harp has a higher gravity (higher alcohol by volume) than Guiness. There is a trick to serve the beers this way- pour the Harp first, then lay a spoon on the surface of the Harp and pour the Guiness into the spoon, raising the spoon up the glass as the volume increases. It's an even cooler look if the Guiness is served from a nitrogenated tap. Any two liquids with different densities will do this.
