drivers license and ID scanners at clubs

just wondering how you all felt about having your DL or ID swiped by doormen at night clubs. ive encountered it twice in the past month and i dont like it at all. the first place respected my wishes to not scan it and visually verified it was valid and i was old enough. the second place pulled me out of line and told me i couldnt get in(crobar)(which i later did).

the thing is, there is alot more info embedded IN your ID than ON it. your social security number, your digital signature, your digital picture, etc. i put a link below to one site that has some info. it was on the first page of a google search.

its a civil liberties and privacy issue and these scanners should be illegal IMO. but what can you do if youre denied entry because you dont wish to give up your sensitive information to a club that just needs to know youre legal age to get in?

its easy to just let them do it but think about what theyre getting on you even though they claim theyre not. i dont wish to give up my info and HOPE that some night club is decent and moral when im not around. i wouldnt give that info to my best friend, would you?

Unfortunately I see that as the future. All your info pretty much out on the table for all to see. Credit reports, bank account info, criminal history ...etc...

Its pretty much inevitable.

National ID cards.

In one State in Germany (Nordrhein-Westfalen), they plan to make DJ licenses and the DJ?s who do not have a license won't get booked or allowed to play in clubs anymore. :? It seems some club owners have been sued lately from people with ear damages and who do they blame...of course the DJ and only the DJ. :x They have to go to a kind of school and people teach them how bad loud music is mkay and other very important things and the DJ`s even have to pass a test to get the license.

This is a crazy world :P:twisted::evil::x:shock:

Expect every club in New Mexico has scanners.. and if we cant scan a ID we have to make a photo copy of it.

ehh wonderful litigious society where no one takes responsibility for their own action...typical

I don't mind ID scanners...they are much more accurate and can tell if the license is truly valid...I HIGHLY doubt (civil liberty or not) that anyone is going to take that embedded information and suddenly abuse it...besides, I think the next one that gets scanned in anyway overwrites the previosu one.

All it is is to ensure you're legal...I've seen some really good fakes out there that look legit too.

Scratch the back of your license with something...then it become unreadable...then just say normal wear and tear...

fuckas!

#437483Post 12 of 36

Unfortuenly, I think there is nothing we can do. If you want to go to a club and they have that then either don't go or deal with. Personally I disagree with it but I guess it is one of those things that it really is not worth bitching about.

Re: drivers license and ID scanners at clubs

It?s not about hiding something or not. Personal rights are attacked more and more and it makes me mad. I don't hurt nobody or commit crimes but I do not want to end in an investigation just because my DNS was found in a pub next to where a guy sat who was shot or to get a visit from the Police because my ID was scanned in a club where a crime happened. The question is, how often do you really need to legitimize yourself? I do not have a problem with showing my ID card where the Security is needed (Airport, Frontiers etc.) but not for going to a club. I really doubt that all the scanning leads to more security. Mass Murders, Terrorists and other criminals have most of the time ways to go either under the radar of the system or to bypass it so the main loss of Freedom happens to "normal" people which are a huge majority. I just do not think it?s worth it as the benefits of such laws are way smaller than the costs and I am not talking about money only here.

#437537Post 16 of 36

Unfortunately, clubs are doing this in order to protect themselves from the letigiousness of our societies. By scanning the ID it almost completely eliminates the human error factor. If you have some beefcake at the door who barely graduated high school reading IDs, chances are they'll make a mistake here or there. And with that mistake comes liability. If the person they let in is underage, they stand to lose their license.

I don't agree with the practice; I completely agree with what Tom and the others have said. Regretfully though, this is where we're headed.

I understand that Tom. But when you really get into it ... you have no rights. There is alway some clause to pull you over, to look into your handbag, to talk to you, etc. Even Diplomatic Immunity has clauses. The only real freedom you have is the "thought" of freedom itself. and/or it is only illegal when you get caught. :D

We are more or less sheep to our higher powers. and that is the way they want it. A nation of people without any control freaks out any government. That is the way it is, the way it will be.
We are more or less sheep to our higher powers. and that is the way they want it. A nation of people without any control freaks out any government. That is the way it is, the way it will be.
Very true. We don't even "own" our own land! We are merely renting it with the taxes we pay. Not to mention the fact that it can be taken from us at any time (see Eminent Domain and Condemnation).

#437547Post 19 of 36

Re: drivers license and ID scanners at clubs

yep.

"they" wanted to wide up a freeway around these parts. The people almost lost their homes because of it. They were not even going to pay a fraction of the value of the land or home.

Bunch of people got pissed off, and the state had to re-direct efforts. It was a close one. It happens everyday to people in the USA and most of the time they do not even get a dime. Herm. I did a project on this in High School. Talk about fuel for a fire when I was younger. It made me listen to Punk.

#437548Post 20 of 36

Well, eminent domain and condemnation are both supposed to be the 'taking or use of land for a higher public purpose for just compensation'. The most disputed part = "just compensation". Seems that the government doesn't want to make with the dough. Go figure.

Re: drivers license and ID scanners at clubs

do we just lay down and let them fuck us at will because some of us think its inevitable? first off, ITS NOT.

i have no problem whatsoever with police, or any governmental agency swiping my ID. thats what we got them for...but just to make these scanners available to anyone on the internet?

you dont have to swipe your ID going through the airports!!!!! are we to believe that NIGHT CLUBS need these even though an airport checkpoint doesnt?!!! even an airport seccurity guard shouldnt have the right to swipe your ID..til they are wholly a governmetal agency.

come on...dont talk about laying down without a fight

Nothing better than seeing the look on a stuck up 20 yr old LA hoochy when she gets denied for a fake ID. Scan away.

First of all it is inevitable. Maybe not merely swiping an ID card..... but your info will be known and your location will be tracked.

To answer your question. Yes we are going to lie down and take it because what are you going to do about it? You nor I have any power or say in any of this and no matter what you do it will happen. So "fight" all you want its pointless.

#437599Post 27 of 36

Just think.. In ten years all newborns will just have a ID chip implanted in them! No need to loose your license now!

Re: drivers license and ID scanners at clubs

Tampa is testing grounds for experimental big brother technology. It was one of the first cities to tryout face recognition in the States. I'm not at all surprised by this, I've had my ID swiped plenty of times at the liqour store. Even had a friend locked in ABC for using a fake after they swiped it.

that's some crasy shit. what happened to land of the free? you are free to do as you're government tells you, that's about it. thank god things aren't like that over here.

Re: drivers license and ID scanners at clubs

I'd be real curious to see if that arrest holds up in 7-11. I used to be a cop and that employee has no right to detainee you, unless he committed a crime in the store, aka citizens arrest.

I think the clubs should be able to swipe IDs. They have a right to cover their ass against law suits, just like you have a right to go to another club if you don't like it. That said, only limited infomation should be able to be obtained from a strip ideally, primiarly just your name and date of birth.
That said, only limited infomation should be able to be obtained from a strip ideally, primiarly just your name and date of birth.
Exactly. And if anyone has ever looked at the swiper mechanism, that's all that shows up. Not saying that the makers of these devices haven't set them up to obtain more without your knowing, but I find that highly unlikely.

did you go to the web site i linked? they can get everything..what a great marketing tool for the club to sell this info to magazines, etc. we are a demographic and thats worth money. those machines are promoted to record the info..the small of it is that it makes it easy to check validity of the ID.

so the situation is..heres my ID and i trust you with my social security number, digital pic, and digital signature because youre a night club and night clubs are our societies epicenter of morality.

How in the hell would the 7/11 situation hold up in court?

Are all 7/11's linked to a central police database?

How come this hasn't been on the news?
