Anyone here ever seriously considered opening a small venue of some kind with quality house music and good drinks? Or if you currently do own one or run one and don't feel like posting about it here, please pm me. I'm meeting with a guy this week who has opened and sold several to discuss some things, but I wanted to check in with my ms peeps too.

@Trick, I'm looking into a lounge type place...

@ Rave Lizard I can't see your posts, I don't know why but you are stuck on ignore mode, will have to look into that.

follow your dreams!

Re:

I haven't opened my own venue but I've been doing promotions for over twenty years. Just remember, at the end of the day it is a business (that word makes me cringe BTW). So, if you want it to succeed, you definitely need to have a model/ structure in place & expand upon that idea.

#1751353Post 7 of 140

Re: Opening a Lounge/Club

wow - 20 years promoting, no kidding! ya, it would very much be for business purposes, if it wasn't profitable I wouldn't go near it. Just kind of bouncing around some ideas now, but I still need to meet with this guy who has opened and sold several and made good $ doing so.

Re: Opening a Lounge/Club

good idea man…so like a hookah lounge type thing, or getting dj's booked and loud type thing?

You could Invites to José Padilla to play, but I think that micko could be cheaper, :D

Re:

My direction is to go more toward 'One-Off' events. That way, you don't have to concern yourself with a liquor license (byob), certificate of occupancy, or building inspections.

#1751379Post 12 of 140

Re: Opening a Lounge/Club

according to my friend who is introducing me to the club owner who sold his clubs, he knows how to handle all that, because I asked the same thing Mikey.

Actor, photographer, Starbucks guru and now club entrepreneur. It sounds like you should give up on these pipe dreams and get a proper job. I suppose your music policy could be based on recommendations you got from people here.

Re: Opening a Lounge/Club

ahh geez Zover, you seem to be stuck on ignore mode also, similar to rave lizard, so unfortunately I can't see your posts, I'll keep you posted though, one this all gets sorted out. might take a while though, I'm pretty busy. and by a while I'm talking weeks, possibly months or years. I guess it's up to you really.

Do you have any plans to visit a nightclub before you open one? Fair play if not, I salute your spirit.Good luck, looking forward to the pics (or stfu) :)

Re: Opening a Lounge/Club

oh no, audwey, maybe there's some kind of spider or virus taking place, because your posts are coming up ignored as well, will look into this and keep you posted!

#1751451Post 20 of 140

Re: Opening a Lounge/Club

^^ You will be missing half the members soon

I don't actually understand why people bother with an ignore function, firstly you could be missing out on something interesting and/or funny, secondly it is only the internet. It mostly can't really hurt you.

#1751453Post 21 of 140

Re: Opening a Lounge/Club

^Strange right? It's only those 3 that the virus has attacked, again I must speak to Kamal or a mod about this, as it's quiet troubling to not be able to read their posts.

#1751460Post 22 of 140

Re: Opening a Lounge/Club

What sort of cunt acknowledges you have posted, then pretends they have not read them? Strange fruit.

#1751464Post 23 of 140

Re: Opening a Lounge/Club

Gosh, perhaps I'm on ignore as well and my good friend Zover can't read my posts either, because he seems to still be posting responses...

Zover, if you can read this, do a double post . I won't be able to read it, but I will know you can still read my posts ok!

Must get to the bottom of what is going on or else Rave Lizard, Zover and Audwey's posts will go on unread :(.

Re: Opening a Lounge/Club

Thanks to those who sent pm's about this topic - I knew there would be some good ideas on this from MS, and I'm sure there are lots more.

Are you old enough to open a club? Reading this post I'd imagine you're 12 years old, maximum

Thought of any cool names yet for this club?

How about "BULLSHIT"?

Re: Opening a Lounge/Club

My friends and I always daydreamed about opening a bar when we were more into the rave scene, usually a long the lines of "wouldn't it be cool to have a place where people come and chill and listen to good music?"

Emphasis on our idea of what good music is, so it was a completely masturbatory fantasy

I think that's very dependent upon where you are living. Orlando simply has nothing with any electronic music. There are a lot of 20 somethings and 30 somethings that go out, but the venues are shit. The 1 place I can think of that has like Calvin Harris type dj's is extremely douchebaggy.

Perhaps you should listen to those masturbator glands more mate, you might be happier :roflmao:

I would love get up a Locals night of good progressive music. We have so many Djs here that would fir that bill. But people here don't want locals enough.

Uhm...Sandwich Bar, Suite B, Independent Bar.

#1751553Post 33 of 140

Re: Opening a Lounge/Club

Suite B I need to check out still, sandwhich bar I wouldn't, that's in the milk district area, not a part of town I get excited about - and Indepedent bar, is not my cup of tea, you like it there? But to your point, you are right there are some venues.

Meeting with my friends friend soon, apparently his gf owns a Hookah lounge here in town, and he's opened and sold 5 of his own clubs, so regardless of the outcome, will be good to meet and pick his brain, will update.
