[State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

For once, I'm 100% serious. What do you people think? I think that despite some people's efforts not much has changed. Even the [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=5"]Sasha[/URL] & Digweed sub-forums have two or three users browsing them, [I]including [/I]mods.

Aye or nay?

(Our SC page is doing fine, we will reach 1'000 followers soon, but it has brought 0 people to the site. Even Bedrock has more active users, fcol!)

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

Depends what you think the purpose of MS is.

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

Kamal was about to terminate the site for good. Then it gave it another chance, Gatz and a few others came back but MS never really took off again. I think we're exactly at the same point we was back then.

I don't want ms closed! I'm just asking you 9-10 people (:sarcastic:) what your opinions is.

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

It isn't going to "take off", at least I don't ever see that happening again until some fundamentally site altering things are done. Ways to survive are generally being a small niche site catering to small group of sell-out to mass consumers and by the look of things, we will remain the former.

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

most of the regulars aren't starting threads.

Are you threadning me?

^ lol... don't thread on me

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

I know you weren't waiting for a big change, but maybe more users than the current 12 (<irony). Do they even make a niche at all?

Anyway, I just wanted to know what the site's status is at present. From what you say I gather ms will live on and, of course, I'm happy with it.

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

A completely misunderstood post. I thought my question was very simple: How is ms changed after Kamal's announcement.

#1746461Post 11 of 32

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

it hasn't.

#1746463Post 12 of 32

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

Why does it need to be anything other than it is? You can come here and get loads of music, have a read, have a chat, have a laugh, have a fight......

Does it matter if there's 20 people doing this or 2000? Am I missing something?

As long as the board is being used and enjoyed, what's the problem?

#1746465Post 13 of 32

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

The part you're "missing" is that Kemal had decided to shut ms down for good, Gar.

#1746470Post 14 of 32

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

Was he not just querying if there was any point to the board still being here due to the fact there wasnt much activity at that time?

The response to Kamal's thread clearly showed there was a point to it.

I know its not really been an issue as far as i know up till now but if it was a financial thing about keeping the board going then im sure the regulars would try to chip in to keep it going?

My point just being that there doesnt need to be loads of users and loads of new threads for people to still enjoy what we have here.

Ditto....

There are a ton of us who still visit [ms] and enjoy a good read...

I for one completely ignore any kind of debate as I have enough drama of my own... don't need online drama... boards are exactly what they were 10 years ago.. "online interaction" if anyone took it too seriously .. then they are crazy. I will keep coming back to [ms] for 10 good members vs 100000 bad ones... I choose to ignore the ignorant....que sera sera.

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

Kamal has already answered the key question, "it hasn't".

I'm happy with ms as it is. I'm relieved to hear that he's not thinking to terminate the site anymore.

was ms "relaunched"? I wasnt aware of that.

I could not agree more - well said fella. Some of the threads are nonsense

I still discover a huge amount of quality tunage

#1746511Post 20 of 32

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

Nonsense = gold imo. Being all serious about a music message board is just lame. And Garry you're 100% on point.

Soundcloud page, Gatz's comeback? It was a relaunch for the people who spent time and money on it.

Obviously, no one feels the same, so this thread has no point and can be annihilated.

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

i just want to say that this site has been a real Godsend for me.

even though i don't come here often the fact that you are all still here gives me hope and comfort.

even if it is just us then who cares. we would be poorer for losing it.

also its a great resource.

so thanks to all of you who make it possible.

Besides, there's no reason to stop. There's obviously no moderation, nobody's getting banned, it all goes automatic. :)

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

Looks like my database access is working again... I just deleted a forum. I'll let you all figure out which one it was. (the threads were moved to GYY)

What should merge where and what should stay? Once we get some ideas that seem popular (including with Kamal) I can make some more changes.

Re: [State of the Nation]Is the [ms] "relaunch" a flop?

Maybe I'm missing it but I'm very confused by this ongoing discussion about the state of MS.

Is the number of visitors a success metric and why is that? Is MS a business dependant on traffic?

The number of visitors have not affected my MS experience with the exception of missing some regulars' posts.

The nature of the internet means our presence is asymmetric, we will never all be on at the same time. It's not like we're a club and seeing the dancefloor empty at peak time.

Do we need more new threads? Sometimes new threads are started and there is little participation and I get the impression we're not interested in those topics, so those threads don't get started again. Sometimes new threads are started and people accuse the OP of spamming ... so what is one to do?
