For those of you that don't know Mark is a resident opening and headlining DJ at the Guvernment in Toronto and has been for many years. i just saw him a few weeks ago opening for Nic Fancuilli and Deep Dish at the same venue for Canada's Victoria Day and he was great. Now he was headlining sunday night in buffalo which is 15 minutes from my house and i was to say the least, amped because we have absolutely NO progressive scene around here. he started out real solid playing some funky progressive. then shit went bad, fast. he played a remix of pump up the jam, which i like, but after that he played a remix of Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrbody in the club get tipsy, followed by a super gay timberlake remix, followed by an equally gay beastie boys remix. i had to leave after that. i'm not trying to say bad stuff about him because i know that he was trying to cater to a buffalo top 40 crowd. but my friends and i, probably the only 7 people there to actually see him were super disappointed...all i can ask is why mark? why? -ryan

Mark Oliver @ Warehouse Buffalo, NY
Re: Mark Oliver @ Warehouse Buffalo, NY
Definitely sounds sucky. It's really painful to go see someone after seeing them at their best only to be surprised by what they're playing. I think you hit the nail on the head when you say that he had to cater to a particular crowd. I have several friends that play out and more often than not they receive "suggestions" (read: demands) on what to play from the club owner/promoter.
Re: Mark Oliver @ Warehouse Buffalo, NY
when i was in toronto and saw him, i wasn't very pleased with his performance....he mixes and mashes everything together....he'll go from good progressive to chez trance.
Re: Mark Oliver @ Warehouse Buffalo, NY
Sorry to hear that Ryan....but it was good partying with you in TO. Even though I was lost for about 3 hours in the middle of the dancefloor it was a rockin time.
You should come out here to LA...the next few weeks are going to be great. Digweed, Lawler, Warren just to name a few ;)

Shitty to hear that mate. Mark must have been tailoring his set to the crowd, me thinks. I've seen him on multiple occasions and he's yet to disappoint.
You should try to make it up here to Toronto and see him at the Guv. Lots of talent coming through here this month as well. Digweed on the 10th, then Sasha and Steve Lawler on the 18th. Should be a blast :)

Used to listen to him back on grooveradio.com. Best show on that station.
Sorry to hear about your night, though.
