If we upgrade to the latest software, the forums will become white unless Pickle donates some of his time to bring it back to this black.

As a new member, I have no idea what this means, but it seems interesting to say the least.

Re: Time for Goodbye?

I wish there was a way to turn this place into a twitter-esque remake. Everyone who wants to be heard will make themselves known.

#1739676Post 128 of 180

Re: Time for Goodbye?

I have to admit, I find Twitter unreadable. @this & @that!

Re: Time for Goodbye?

A white MS is better than a kick in the arse but I would prefer a black background ;)
I wish there was a way to turn this place into a twitter-esque remake. Everyone who wants to be heard will make themselves known.
I don't think this current format is stopping anyone from making themselves known!

Not sure if upgrading to a new forum software will do anything when the current one looks fine to me, and it seems we have already customized it a lot with the DJ database stuff? I don't know if our customizations will be impacted or broken by the new forum software. If that happens it might be detrimental of MS.

My UserCP is only subscribed to: GYY, Movies / TV, Computers / Electronics / Games, Adults Only, P&R, Podcasts & Mass uploads, Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, Nick Warren / Jody, and Sasha.

So my vote goes to keeping GYY, Movies, Computers, Adults, and one P&R.

We can also collapse Movies, Computers, Adults into GYY and create a thread-tagging system like what we already have, to denote the categories of threads.

If XXX number of guests/loiterers bug people we can always restrict the forum to registered users only??

Re: Time for Goodbye?

Been loitering on the One Plus forum recently and noticed their forum is very light and responsive: Recent Threads - OnePlus Forums

It uses a forum software called XenForo? XenForo - Compelling Community Forum Software

Re: Time for Goodbye?

If it wasn't for MS, I would not have discovered so many artists and mixes.

For example Ricky Ryan - This mix is outstanding

Long live MS ;)

^^^^ Exactly. This has been a huge part of me discovering new music and new artists through others trying to do the same thing. It has been THE source for me since 2002
Face it... we all grew up, lol. A lot of us were single and/or in college while [ms] was flourishing. Personally, I just don't have the time to post as much as I would like unfortunately so I end up just visiting a few key threads for music and call it good.
Truth.

Can't hold on to the past, these things come and go, it was a pleasure to be a part of it.

#1739989Post 137 of 180

Re: Time for Goodbye?

there seems to be plenty of people wanting this to stick around, and yes, we have grown up and clubbing may not be on our agenda every weekend anymore we are still very involved with the music. if the admin no longer wants to run the site, he is more than welcome to sell it to someone else willing to take over. maybe some fresh blood running the site is what it needs to move to the next 10-20 years.

Re: Time for Goodbye?

I don't post much, but that doesn't mean I'm not reading. I love MS as it's the unique place for me to get excellent music and strange pictures from the non-sense thread :) If MS disapear, I will be lost in the night without music...

Re: Time for Goodbye?

I'm 39 years old and gonna hit 40 this year. I've pretty much retired from the club scene, except for that once a year (if that) that Digweed may come to my city. This board's been great through the years. If it goes, it would be a sad day. I may not go clubbing anymore but still take in a healthy daily dose of progressive house everyday.

Re: Time for Goodbye?

I just turned off the forum moderation for new members. Kamal, I'll defer the decision to you but I think post editing should be turned on as well.

Kamal, I unfortunately don't have the time to devote to restyling the forum... I must've put 500 hours into it last time we upgraded. That was before I had 3 kids and a pregnant wife, so I just don't have time to commit to anything these days except possibly an hour every couple of days. I'm sorry :( I know you spent money on the new software, but my thought is that money won't fix the heartache you have with the site.

I think consolidation would be good--we have looked at doing this in the past, but seeing how it's general consensus at this point I think it's something we should do. feather had some good ideas regarding structure changes. It's a race to see which of us does it first.

Re: Time for Goodbye?

The SC page is ready we must decide what to do with it. Kamal?

3 kids?? I lost count.

No worries Adam, I'll play with it as I can, I've already paid a lot for the software so I really think moving to it is inevitable. I'll see what I can do to mess with the colors etc.

I'm with you Kamal.

Its's time to put the site down.

#1740370Post 152 of 180

Re: Time for Goodbye?

^Ya ultimately, it's up to Kamal. I back whatever decision he makes. If he needs it to go down permanently than so be it. After giving it some thought...I don't really mind either way. I think it has been a great thing for a long while. But things are pretty damn slow around here. P&R section is the only one that seems to have life, and even it is nowhere near what it was.

Re: Time for Goodbye?

^ total BS & you know it

#1740381Post 154 of 180

Re: Time for Goodbye?

I believe that bandwidth consumption is not the main issue, server costs, maybe? If we migrate the music database to SC then all that is left is the board. Why remove it? I know things we'll never be the same, Twilo, Digweed, etc. Why throw it away, though? We can have a forum, with a new skin if needed, and a cool SC page.

Re: Time for Goodbye?

Before shutting down just consolidate and reduce the size of the forum.

There is no harm in trying it before shutting it down.

It's silly to not even try.

It's clear that there are enough people to want MS around and then you have a bunch of naysayers who come by to ask for its shut down when they can simply not visit, kinda dumb and hypocritical, what are they even doing on the forum to begin with?
