Taken from the djmixes2k torrent news page:
2005-05-24 - Gavin Kingsley, the Director of The Radio Departement asked us to remove all A State Of Trance (Armin Van Buuren sets) and Digweed @ KISS livesets from the djmixes2k pages so we did. They have the management of the ASOT show and sites that want to broadcast the show must pay a monthly fee (like Digitally Imported does). Djmixes2k work with the artists and agents, not against so the decision to remove the sets in question was an easy one to make. Other sites that offer ASOT/Digweed sets for download will apparently be contacted by The Radio Departement in the near future.
http://www.theradiodepartment.com/

i didnt see this posted here already... but has it been an issue thus far? or has anyone heard anything about it?

"this is john.. thanks mercury server. heres a shoutout right before my syndication company makes you hate me"

Re: kiss syndication = ms fuxorness?

Well lets hope that does not happen. Even though that would get rid of some of these leechers on here.

Wanni I know what you're gonna say.... DONT SAY IT :P

also you're wrong in any case because the first set we ever hosted (IIRC) was some March or April mix from 2002 cause I remember linking it off of Shahrukhs' FTP and digger posting the login / pass to the FTP on the AG forum

Re: kiss syndication = ms fuxorness?

Lame. Looks like my [mn] Digweed show collection will be coming to an end. It is extremely ironic that this comes right on the heels of John's first public endorsement of our little community. Tragic, isn't it. :(

Lets hope everything will be alright and MN will stay the way it is. Don't worry I am sure you will be able to get the Diggers show somehow even if Mn can't host them anymore.

Re: kiss syndication = ms fuxorness?

You know morons like this yahoo...banning sites from hosting radio shows.....Actually hurts the producers out there and the artists as well.

For me personally the only way i will hear this show is by dl from ms. alot of times i try and buy my fav tunz that i hear from the shows on vinyl.

Without a site like ms hosting the sets I would never hear it thus I will stop buying....

what this guy is doing is banning free advertisement for the artists and the producers whoes trax are featured on these shows.

Re: kiss syndication = ms fuxorness?

According to the post, he's doing it in order to provide the shows for a fee. How can he get away with that from a licensing aspect? Wouldn't each show then become like a compilation CD with licensing for each individual track needing to be secured?

#423006Post 23 of 49

Re: kiss syndication = ms fuxorness?

if this is merely a request, then why should D2K comply? is there legal recourse otherwise?

Good point.

Re: kiss syndication = ms fuxorness?

if 2K has to drop it, then I would think it would apply to all sites hosting (unless the servers are based in Malaysia  )...

I wonder how FM will pan out through all this...

I'm somewhat freaked out by this...gotta have my mixes!

Re: kiss syndication = ms fuxorness?

I don't remember offhand the legal implications et Al for overseas radio, but unless it has to0 do with the public, etc. paying the taxes and the like to support the station...

but isn't these broadcasts PUBLIC domain which basically means they can do what they want with it?

For personal use, not distribution.

Someone brought up the point of it being royalty based, I would think yes in that case than all tracks would need proper licensing.

Also from what I've since gathered this isn't regarding the kiss shows it is regarding the syndicated "transitions", which we don't host. It might be the same show..... but from two different outlets, different sponsors etc....

Re: kiss syndication = ms fuxorness?

A hint for you all if hosting gets cut from here...

The Kiss mixes have been hosted on usenet for quite some time now on the alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.dance newsgroup.

One of the easiest and fastest ways to get it, especially if you have an account on a nice newsgroup cataloguing service like Easynews, although it's not neccessary. You'll get massive speeds and they can't shut it down.

It's where I find the mixes in the event MN goes down. Whoever has been ripping and uploading them there have done a fine job over the years.

#423156Post 39 of 49

Re: kiss syndication = ms fuxorness?

And yeah hopefully this will be death to freshlymixed. Although since they're making money they may be able to afford the fee, but I can't see them being allowed to sell the mixes.

Re: kiss syndication = ms fuxorness?

I wonder how much FM is making after expenses? they must pay big $ for all the bandwidth that's getting sucked.
