stocks are typically only one portion of a portfolio, do you have your retirement taken care of already? im throwing all of my (extra) money into my 401k, then once my wife starts working, i'll start throwing money into an index fund (vangaurd.com)
then IF i still had extra money id rather go to vegas and gamble it away than buy stocks.
yes people hit it rich with stocks but they are extremely lucky and most likely already rich to begin with.
Re: Any stock market ppl in the house?
I've got a savings account I don't touch that is attached to moderate to high risk investments.

ok, sounds just like my 401k lol. the reason i like it is because i get matching through my employer.. hey free money is good.
ive been doing a shit ton of research on this recently and id suggest you check out Getting started - Bogleheads
now in the spirit of this thread since you are asking about stocks and not investment advice: i'd like to throw money at google and apple, but id have to throw way too much money at it to make any real money.

As long as you are getting more than inflation every year you should be happy
