last night at System Sound Bar in Toronto desyn and holden were spinning. I felt bad for these guys because they were both so awful. Holden couldn't even mix a song without fucking it up. Desyn really disappointed me. I was looking forward to hearing him live for the first time and he totally shit the bed. I will never see either of them again for the rest of my life.

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

when i saw holden in miami he rocked it. i think desyn has to be one of the most boring djs ive ever heard. everytime ive listened to him or a recorded set i have to leave or change it. hes almost as bad as sleep dish.

ill def be checking out holden next week when he comes back to nyc though.

peas.

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

I have to hand it to Systen sound bar for at least making the bookings. Toronto has had some weak bookings lately. But as far as Desyn's drunk ass he was horrible. And I left 40 mins into holdens set.

Goes down as worst time ever in a club by far for me..

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

sorry to hear about your night, no matter what any of us say it won't change how you feel, but... IMO I think I'd go into a desyn set with the understanding that he is an "opener dj" and I wouldn't expect too much of a set that blew my lid off and revolutionized anything I've heard before. I do credit him with some choice tracks and really great ear for progressing a set along...so props to desyn. On the other hand...if a DJ's drunk, he's drunk. no doubt you're in for some trainwrecks and nightmares. bummer. I've seen James Holden around quite a few times and I gotta give the kid some respect because that guy is one of the greatest producers/remixers of our time. Midas touch for sure. But the best set I've heard from him was probably March 2004. Blew me away. I remember that set fucking me up for like a week or so afterward. I had no idea what hit me, my brain slowly tring to process what it was. I couldn't talk for hours afterward. Noshit! Since then, it's been dicey for me. sorry you were bummed out by him, he can get really odd techy for a bit and throw you off sometimes. I assume that could be what happened? I hope you had a good time with your friends at least and got out. good for you! There's always next time! Until then, don't give up on 'em.

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

If you're seeing an international DJ they have no excuse for being drunk. Drunk local DJs I can tolerate, but when you're forking out your hard earned cash to see these guys you don't wanna see some retard trainwrecker stumbling around up there. I could've stayed home and looked in the mirror if that's what I wanted.

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

Boo-earns to hear that. My best friend and I were thinking of going to check that show out, but it got put on the backburner. Sorry, to hear that you had a bad time though.

We were hoping they would enjoy themselves enough, to come back again... I guess not.

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

i was there and i had a great time.

came in around 12 to the sounds of lee osbourne(local toronto dj) warming things up nicely in the main room. desyn came on just past 12 30 and for the first hour played some really nice tunes, not too banging imo. beautiful opening first hour, good mixing, nothing too crazy. the second hour was a bit harder and more banging than the first. he really knows how to build a set really well using some incredible tunes. (sorry, can't trainspot for shit) I had the biggest smile on my face the entire time he was spinning.

james holden came on at 3. tried getting into his set, but just couldn't. he bored me, but the crowd seemed to be liking it. only tune i could recognize from his set was that britney tune- breathe on me(vocal mix) which he dropped halfway through his set. left at 4 30 mainly cuz i just wasnt feeling the sound.. heard he finished just after 6.

btw, to those who think desyn was SO shitfaced that he didnt know what he was doing. well, he wasnt. .. desyn was drinking, but i dont think it had a factor on his mixing.. i mean, he did mix very well. no trainwrecks from what i heard, where as holden screwed up on mixing his opening track. just wanted to clear that misconception

im sure if you enjoyed his essential mix from miami, you would've had a blast. all in all, it was a fun night and i am looking forward to seeing desyn again.

I'm going to see Holden on NYC this friday, hope he had practiced some...

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

i've been a fan of desyn for years, but since his phenomenal e-mix from last october, he's earned a spot in my top 5. his sets may not be full of blinding mindfuck tunes, but it's absolute quality IMO, and probably my favorite style these days. can't imagine a bad set really.

#414493Post 15 of 34

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

both are hit or miss imo

thats too bad though man...

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

Wow that is kinda shocking. I heard desyn was really good live and the couple of live sets I have from him were good. But as for holden I have heard the same thing about live over and over again. I still wonder why people waste there money to go see this guy. Holden should just stick to producing.

#414561Post 17 of 34

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

I like James,but i don't like Desyn's music....

#414690Post 18 of 34

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

^^^ A coherent sentence??!!!

That's really weird about Desyn, I saw him at the Bedrock party in Miami he was pretty damn good. Like everyone has said, nothing mind blowing, but very even and consistent. I'd rather someone keep a good tempo and mix well, rather than just go for the bangers and crazy mixing theatrics.

Can't comment on Holden, never seen him live, but Desyn is a future star IMO. Probably just an off night. Don't write him off for it.

#414792Post 19 of 34

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

hmmm i too went to see desyn here at lima and damn it wasnt what i expected... went to the place expecting way too much from desyn. The mixing was excelente though i didnt feel it that much.

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

i have to start by saying that runningman is a complete ass and always has been. he'll trash a dj and a club and then will ask for guestlist at that club for that dj a week later. he's a punk who hides behind his keyboard and does absolutely no good for the scene.

as for the party, desyn was great. he wasn't drunk but he was having an incredible time with a lot of drunk people around him. he spun the best set i have ever heard from him in the toronto. he played really sweet summer sounds to get things started and then moved into heavy tech/tribal stuff, finishing with some huge progressive bombs. he was punching in the big tracks right on cue and the crowd was going crazy throughout.

the most unfortunate part of the night is that desyn opened. i believe it had something to do with travel plans, but it would have been better for james to start the night and desyn close it. the minimal tech stuff that james builds his set with did not go well with how desyn had left things. the energy in the club dropped dramatically even though his music was quality. ya he hit a couple bumps in his mixing, but i think its more noticable with his music because its so minimal. overall his mixing was pretty good. we left about an hour and a half into his set, but my friends who stayed the night said james really put it together towards the end of the night, and the reviews on toronto boards confirm that.

both james and desyn are class acts and really talented djs. every time we bring them to the club the night is fantastic and this one was no exception.

Boy don't you sound like someone that works at that sketchy site in the world. Believe me Barney i won't step foot in that place ever again (unless sander or lawler book there). I have been there 4 times and haven't had great time there yet. I said it wasn't the bars fault. I said the dj's were shit. And you confirmed it thank you!! As for me being an ass i can't help myself when there are stupiud people like you giving bad advice on mercury server to help you financial situation. I understand you work there but don't try to tell me that Brad Copeland or James Holder are great dj's.. I am just giving the heads up that if you were going to waste your money going to see desyn or holden save it. They Suck. The bar wasn't dancing all night. You could probably tell considering my name is runningman and i was sitting all night.

As for Brad is he still allowed at stereo in montreal or did they give him the boot. know the roots of the music before you start saying stupid shit on here because you work at some bar.

Barney == Money hunter ( hunting for your money)
Eat shit bitch!!

This is getting juicy!!! :Naughty:

for the record,

 1. it's hard to take the advice of an admitted lawler fan.

 2. i've seen Holden twice, he's phenominal. Maybe it's CANADA that sucks. OHHHH SNAP!!! YES I DID!!!

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

i have to agree with barney (gregor)

there was nothing wrong the sets except for reversing the slots for each dj would have been better

me my friends hada great time...we danced all night...right now just looks there is a difference in opions...i loved holdens set...it was a perfect progression...started out minimal and the last hour was banging...holden at his best...i have been to system sound bar a few times and have had a blast each time

no way do i think gregor is trying to rip people off...does an incredible job in promoting for TO(www.bringthebeats.com)...every time i go he gives me guest list and 10 of my friends...he wouldn't do that if he was money hungry

my 2 cents

Colin

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

for the record you dick, i make absolutely no money for what i do at system, footwork and the guvernment. i get a small number of comps and some drinks at the bar, which i give to people coming on my list. i do what i do for the love of the scene and to support my friends who work super hard to make a living within it.

as for brad you have no right bringing up stereo and his involvement in the club. actually you're the fucking asshole that i say you are for doing so. david morales bought the club and cleared the place of progressive music, which is what brad is all about. that is more information than you deserve you loser.

bottom line, 90% of your posts are trashing something or somebody in the scene. you probably have no real friends and you feel like you're part of something by stating your negative opinion thinking that people honestly care to hear it. critique all you want but when you are as harsh as you are, it makes an unjustifiable impact on the people and places you're commenting on. regardless, most of what you say is so out of whack, it is best if you just don't say anything at all.

sorry if this is too much, i'm typing in a rush and in a rage.

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

do u have blonde hair?? You must have been one of the four guys dancing in the middle. Ya you guys liked it i am happy. But the rest of the bar hated it. I know this because i was outside looking in. I have been to a lot of parties and i know when a crowd is into a dj. I would go to the bathroom and everybody would say that they were shit. Different side of the bar and talk to people to see if it was me. It wasn't me is was them, and that is why i posted it here.

Yep you got it right on the head... :Bingo:

I feel honored that you read 100% of my posts to say that 90% are bashing people. I bash you and your stupid advice. Nobody else. Let's get that straight. If i don't agree with you then i will tell you. I am not going to sit here idle while you choke us with your "Come see shitty dj's" advice (that i took once and regreted). How am i bad for the scene?? I pay when i go.. you make money off of it so who is on the wrong side. You remind of all the reasons why i don't go to top 40 bars. People outside in your face "come see our bar.. come see our bar.." please gregor. Should change your name to "The New Top 40".. I go because of my love for the music and it is an almost therapy for me. I don't like people choking me on this site i get that everywhere else. What next Barney?? For a business man you are pretty stupid calling a client a loser. So your not a business man and you don't know shit about music so maybe you are the loser... just a little food for thought..

you're saying that two of the hottest djs in the business, who are traveling the world and being honoured with compilations and productions on some of the most recognized labels on the planet, are shit.

you're saying that one of them most successful djs in canada, who has made a living djing for the past three years, is shit.

you're saying that a club and a night that has survived for six years in a city with one of the most competitive night club scenes in world, is shit.

what are your credentials? more importantly, what is your full name, so that i can do my best to ensure that you always pay full price at the events that i promote for.

look barney i don't want to argue with you anymore.. its counterproductive.. it isn't about credentials..its about having a good time.. and they (desyn and James) didn't produce... that is my opinion. and most of the bar opinion that night by how empty it got quick.. it was empty at like 4. i am not trying to bash system sound bar.. your still wrong but i am sick of arguing.. it was a horrible night let's end it as that..

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

i was at system that night and to tell u the truth it was THE most HORRIBLE night of my life!!.. i hated every min of it!! i went for the music and the dj's didnt even make my trip worth it.. girls were in the washroom throwing up becuase the music was so bad.. im sure u didnt see that one coming! honestly i would never ever go see Desyn or Holden play again

plus the moment Holden came on deck HE FUCKED UP!!! Dont tell me u didnt hear it.. the first song he fucked up.. he tried to mix but all i heard was a HORRIBLE noise!!! in fact the whole night i was hearing HORRIBLE noise!!!.. compaired to the beginning of the night the bar was packed. then by 2-3 everyone left!!! y?? may i ask becuase it was shit!!! no one was dancing except for the few fucked up ppl there.. and then the whole time ppl where just stomping their feet.. waiting for something to drop but nuthing did!.

honestly im not knocking the bar like everyone else is here.. im just saying.. DESYN and HOLDEN can kiss my ass.. i would never go see them play again.. if u paid me 2.2 million dollars and gave me my own island!!!.. thats how bad they were.. sorry.. <-- honest opinon!

Re: Desyn Masiello & James Holden

Again I state my point...I saw Desyn in Miami and he was damn good. So he had one off night...don't go off saying stupid shit like "i would never go see them play again.. if u paid me 2.2 million dollars and gave me my own island!!!"...that's just retarded. If I wrote everything off because of one bad experience I wouldn't like anything.
