from Jody:
Apologies to anyone trying to find my Soundcloud page . It appears they have terminated the account due to copyright infringement ( ie uploading my DJ mixes ). Whilst I fully understand the reasoning behind this , I think its a real shame as surely people listening to mixes and analysing tracklists only helps drive sales.. If this has happened to me I can only imagine how many others are gonna lose theirs , with no refund on subscription costs. Currently speaking with some bigwigs but even if the account becomes re-instated , it will no longer be a useful platform for DJ's doing their job which is showcasing new music by other artists . A real shitter

Re: sh*tty news about soundcloud

Then all dj mixes will eventually be terminated.

Re: sh*tty news about soundcloud

^that's certainly the concern dude :(. And I could only image what that would mean for you mate, I hope it does not happen of course.

Can't say this thread would apply to you then TBH

Re: sh*tty news about soundcloud

I do it for fun but for producers and DJs it's work. Maybe Jody received the number of warnings that gets you banned, that would be a different story. At first it looked as if he got terminated for the mixes.

Re: sh*tty news about soundcloud

I hate the new app. It's so weird how the site went from amazing to rubbish.

Re: sh*tty news about soundcloud

I always thought this was inevitable, as you actually don't pay for listening to the content, the chain of process misses out on reimbursement for releasing their tracks. Etc.

#1719382Post 10 of 22

Re: sh*tty news about soundcloud

People pay to be on soundcloud. . It's interesting, their copyright system can also ban on sounds like each other. I think Mediafire use the same system.

The biggest joke is there are people who have put up whole commercial albums and they are still there. The system is totally fucked.

Re: sh*tty news about soundcloud

True. Very true on finding Hernan's Parallel

This shines a light on things; http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2014/06/end-soundcloud-djs/

Re: sh*tty news about soundcloud

Funny story. The Hernan mix you put me onto . I recognised it as Sequential, so told the guy , thinking he would remove it , I am so naive  He just put the proper name on it and it's still there. Totally blatant breech of commercial copyright. Hernan is probably more vulnerable now because the record company [Renaissance] to have vanished again.

Re: sh*tty news about soundcloud

If they remove DJ mixes there is no reason for people to go to Soundcloud at all?

Who would go to Soundcloud to listen to songs and albums when there's already Spotify and Bandcamp to name two out there?

If not for DJ mixes I would never have found Soundcloud and I would never use it.

Business strategy fail.

I guess there's also Mixcloud, and it seems their idea is entirely predicated on mixes (going by their name). I wonder if they're plagued by the same copyright problems.

Re: sh*tty news about soundcloud

^Good point.

I've always thought about how DJ's play live in general. I mean you show up to a gig, and play what ever the heck you want right? E.g. JD played The Doors - The End on the final track for the vagabond closing, Yes you have bought that track to play it live, but how does one know where/how you have bought this track?

By the way, what is the difference in premium and free content on Soundcloud?

Mixcloud doesn't have downloads. Which is sort of ridiculous actually because if anyone doesn't know how to get them I want to know where they have been the last 5 years or longer  What it does mean is that we are doomed to crap copies. :( Without quality downloads there is no way to listen to the music the way the artist would like it heard.

Re: sh*tty news about soundcloud

That won't solve all the problems (see Google's "Spotify" project, with many indie labels dropped) but it's a step in the right direction.

Of course, the moment MixCloud and Hearthis add features and become more popular they'll be the next targets.
