I was just listening to his mix in the special downloads section, and his style is pretty interesting. How would he be classified in terms of what he spins? Also, what other DJs have a similar style to his, and can anyone recommend other sets?

Re: Ricardo Villalobos

i like music like this. it's a sound that has really grown on me. it's much more interesting than alot of the stuff that gets hosted on this site. i think it's because this stuff is unpredictable and most prog sets seem to follow a very basic structure with very structured songs. it's like a breath of fresh air compared to the simple melodies, floaty keyboard pads, and lack of syncopation which is in alot of music at the moment.

Re: Ricardo Villalobos

i have to agree with my fellow oregonian, im a half of a fan. its the kind of style you have to be in the mood to listen to... dunno how else to describe it.... i find it the best kidn of music to listen to LATELATE at night or early early morning... not something i can listen to all day imo

Re: Ricardo Villalobos

im a full fan, and have been for quite some time. 8)

last summer when i went back to england, i had money aside for some cds i cant get over here, and the one that i left the us planning to come back with was villalobos' masterpiece "alcachofa" and i did. my sister is living in france right now and just mailed me his second (imo, altho more heavily debated than alcachofa) masterpiece.

Re: Ricardo Villalobos

the hawtin/villalobos closing set at Tresor is prolly the best "techno" set i have heard in the last few years. nothing short of epic journey music.

they're fvcking highly talented evil freaks.

Re: Ricardo Villalobos

I'm not a fan yet, but I'd say the potential is there for me to become anywhere from a 1/3 to 3/4 fan. 7/8's is unlikely at this point although under the best of circumstances 61/75's is not out of the question.

Re: Ricardo Villalobos

I was very disappointed with his Th? Au Harem D'Archim?de album, very poorly produced... let's say that minimal should not be mediocrity... any other fillings?

I do like minimal techno, especially Richie Hawtin and early Villalobos.

Re: Ricardo Villalobos

i think the problem a lot of people have with the au harem d'archimede is that its NOT another alcachofa. if given a real chance (listen closely for all the quirky percussion) and whatnot, its fantastic. its certainly not a dance cd (if you could even really say alcachofa is,) but its brilliant music, the man is a genius
