Mine was my uncle's setup: He had one of those suction cup things that you would put a phone receiver onto, and dial in and somehow connect to a BBS. I had no idea how it actually went online.

At uni in the labs I discovered Mosaic, Eudora Mail, [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=1673"]IRC[/URL], and IrfanView.

And then my own modems from U.S. Robotics! It would take me a few days to download a mix or mp3 off FTP on dial-up :what Even on dial-up I was already setting up my own always-on connections before ADSL and cable.

And ICQ for chats :( RIP and WINAMP of course :(

i remember using yahoo to download winamp, then the music software (audiogalaxy) and then 4 complete days to download Armand Van Helden's - You don't even know me. Funny though, i was not pretty much into electronic music, and the first track i downloaded it was house plain and simple as that; i guess it was meant to be.

I actually still have my hotmail account. Largely for symbolic, historic reasons - it was the first email I ever had . Must be heading towards 20 years old i would think.

I have my first email account - yahoo :lol: .. by early 2000 I knew "gmai" would be the best free email option so I got my full name (which is very common) :) - both first and last name and then first middle last name. I still use the second one to this day as my primary email address :)

Alta Vista, Yahoo, Excite, Lycos, 1200 bpm modems, and then eventually 9600, 28.8, and then 56k modems with AOL.

Very first internet experience ... creating a hotmail account (which I still have) on a friends new computer (Windows 95) .. dialup modems.. did not use that email for a couple of years ... before I got a computer myself.. by then it was all about[B] mIRC, ICQ, msn chat, yahoo [/B]messenger... especially [B]Napster & DC++[/B] (did I ever love mp3's) then [B]Morpheus[/B] finally [B]Kazaa[/B] and plenty of blue screens of death! Eventually I switched to [B]soulseek [/B]and finally the wonderful world of torrents and the rest is history.

Installing Mosaic a long time ago. Using GOPHER and Delphi to browse online. Borrowing Kings Quest, Doom and Commander Keen disks from my neighbors so I could check them out.

Installing Quake and finding ftp.cdrom.com that had bots you could download and play against.

Life changed when Counterstrike, became an ease at home. Really one of my first online mp. Never really was much of a huge gamer.

I received a 1200 bauds modem, which was quickly exchanged for a 2400 bauds. Connecting to some BBS using my Amiga, then got a 14.400 bauds. Stayed quite a long time with that one, even when USRobotics released their HST 16.800. It was thanks to a modem that I was able to go to my first demoparty, as we always get the invitations too late with mailswapping disks. Sending e-mail with Fidonet and having to wait several days to get the answer :)

though not my first memory (posted earlier).. i did have to go out and buy a Sony MD player/recorder since downloading Creamfields 2000 was pretty much a mute point because download manager's were not available yet.

those were the good old days though... leaving the computer running at night while downloading a 3 hour mp3 only to wake up in the morning to your connection dropping a few hours into it :)

kids these days are spoiled and have no idea lol.. although that is probably a true statement for every generation.
