so this is my problem. i have been going out for this kind of music for over 5 yrs and the last 2 yrs i went out almost every weekend. i LOVE the music, but i hate going out. At first i would be excited to go out and then when i was in the club, id bitch about all the idiots dancing near me, the fact it was too hot, blah blah blah...basically i could find anything to bitch about BUT i would go home loving that i heard good music live. Now the problem is getting worse...i dread going out. It feels like work more than half the time for me to even get to the club or whatever. Any ideas? maybe i just need a break, but if thats the case i dont know what to do with my time...i have only done this for so long that im clueless how to pass my time now i guess  it never used to be this way...id be excited each and every time and id go to NYC for all nighters but now the idea disgusts me! maybe i stopped all the drugs, and i realized i get sleepy and dont wanna stay awake until 8am dancing? i dont know. I miss the satisfaction i would get out of dancing though.

how do you know
Re: how do you know
you're getting old. you could take up knitting.
Re: how do you know
Maybe you've exhausted yourself by going out every weekend for two years. Your just not feeling the club scene like you use to. But I imagine when your favorite dj is in town, you get all excited about going out. I say just go out when you know its worth it. Don't go out just to go out. Plus, theres nothing wrong with staying home and listening to some sweet sets. :D
Re: how do you know
You can still love the music and not go out every weekened. I used to go out all the time. Now I might go out a couple of times a yr. I only go see the djs I really like. IE John Digweed, etc. But maybe you just need a break for a while. Catch up on other you wanted to do. Good Luck with it.
Re: how do you know
agreed. I only go out when it's a guaranteed good show with good djs... the e-tards piss me off (remember I tried stealing glowsticks from that dude in Miami) and the PLUR shit is annoying as fuck. I hate people always bumping into me or pushing me out of the way so they can stand by the speaker for 30 seconds until they need to sit down, and no matter how much open space I find there will always be people on all sides of me within 2 minutes. I definitely know how you feel, and it's resulted to only going out once every 2-3 months or so.
I think seeing the same venues every weekend also plays a factor in it... you've been there so much that it's not exciting to be there; it's going there, finding your table/floorspot/couch/(cage?) that you're always at every other night, and it just becomes routine. The drugs also played a huge factor in it for me... a few months after I stopped doing the drugs I realized how annoying most parties are.
Just stick with downloading the sets from [ms], because it's as close as you can get to the music without actually having to get bumped into every 3 minutes. :)
Re: how do you know
Its just like anything else if you dont learn to pick your spots it gets old very quick. Learn to go out once in awhile. You will begin to appreciate that time you go out. You dont need to see every dj that comes thru town. If anything you know that they will be back in a few months anyway.
Re: how do you know
If you have to go out every weekend, maybe you could switch up your routine. Try going out to bars or lounges on the weekends and hit up the clubs only when big DJ's are in town. I lived in Somerville for a year and I know that there are tons of just regular bars in Boston that you can go to just for a relaxing night out, but still have a really good time. Two places I liked to frequent when I lived there were Daedulus and Red line in Cambridge Square. I had some really good times there.
It just sounds like you're stuck in a rut and may just need to change things up a bit.
Re: how do you know
i know exactly how you feel... i used to get pissed off at some of the people at the clubs because they have no clue what the fuck is going on and just get in the way, ALL THE TIME... i still hate the people that arent dancing and just happen to want to stand in a spot right in front of you and bump off the vibe your sending out, but i dont let them bother me anymore... its easy to say but the thing i do when i am there is not bother with anyone else besides the people i am with... the only thing i worry about is my good time... yes that is very selfish and not very open but the fact is ive had some really shitty times letting people get to me, so now i just dont bother with them... i see whats going on around me but mind my own business in such a way that everyone knows not to bother me... people are going to do whatever they have to do and be huge idiots regardless so i dont even acknowledge their existence... by doing this, instead of always being broken down by everyone, i stay within myself and can enjoy more of the music... its almost like hating everything so much that it cant even bother you anymore... so i guess my advice to you is to keep doing your thing, dance your ass off, dont bother with people that are idiots, they will always be there, they never go away... make it known that your space is yours and if it pisses them off GOOD, screw them, your there for your own party so have it... you know who is there to party the way you party and who are the assholes after about 5 minutes, respect those who understand and fuck the rest, cause they wont do anything for you anyway... hope that helps... all the best... cheers :Cheerz:

He makes a good point. :P
Re: how do you know
Unless I'm comped and on a list and have access to VIP I don't bother going to the big clubs in NYC any more... It's just not worth it imo... The door just keeps going up and up ($60 is commonplace any more for big events) and then on top of that drinks are ridiculous as well... $12 for well vodka and cheap cranberry sugar water? fuck you.
The only saving grace is the sound... these places do spend the money on keeping their systems sounding good. Now if only the DJ's would stop playing shit records.

Re: how do you know
Go out less, it's quailty not quanity.

Re: how do you know
going out for the sake of going out isn't very fun anymore... i usually go out when something is hapening (friend in town, good dj) or when a group of friends are going out.... in my line of business it seems like i am out partying every day of the week (i get to have shots or drinks with costumers if i want), so when i get to stay home its ok by me .... nights seem more fun when you go out less.... i usually go through streaks. i'll either go out a lot or stay home a lot...
Re: how do you know
vary it up, or take a weekend off...you might go nuts at times knowing you're not out, but at the same time it can be pretty relaxing...
I was hitting at one point 5 nights/week  that'll burn you out really quick in the end.
Get laid!
i do. all the time with my co-nympho bf. but i am fine staying in watching a movie lately and he is like dont you wanna go to such and such its a big night. lol
going out for the sake of going out isn't very fun anymore...
exactly! id rather stare out the window than just go out cuz 'its friday night and everyone is going out' thing..
Re: how do you know
i think you're just getting older and more mature. you can't be cracked out at a club for ever. you never want to be that one old person at the club.

Re: how do you know
edit: did realize someone had dug up an old-ass post from someone i've never heard of. what the hell was the point of that/??
Re: how do you know
I agree with those who say 'only go to shows that are guaranteed to be good'. I mean, go out when you feel like it, but don't 'tie one on'. Only do so if it's an unreal night with wikkid beats!!! I am extremely passionate about electronic music and love the music regardless of where I am....in a club, a martini lounge, my car, or at home. Unless I'm exhausted, sick, or work at a ridiculous time in the am, nothing will keep me away from busting a groove to my favourite dj's. You need to remember why you fell in love with the music in the first place. If you love the music because of drugs and booze....well...that could be your issue. If you love the beats for the beats themselves then you'll still enjoy the music while your tidying up your house and you wont need the club scene to enjoy it at all... just a thought..... K
Re: how do you know
Ooops, i forgot to say... i've been in the scene for about 5 years as well. At first, i'd go out every weekend and get shmammered (it's a word...hah) all the time. But, now I appreciate the beats for soooo much more then just partying. I love love love to go out and dance, however, i don't go crazy like I used to. First of all, it's not healthy and i'm crazy busy. Second though, the music is not about booze, drugs, and sweaty clubs. This may add to the experience, but it is sooo much more to me than this. Perhaps you just don't like it as much as u used to?????? For myself, my passion for electronic beats has grown stronger but maybe yours has subsided...hope this helps!
