What do you think? Has the genre progressed enough for you, do you think it's stagnated? Do you give a shit?

it depends what you're looking for to be honest...

the last 3 cds that really got me excited were from alex boman, neneh cherry (with four tet) and vermont

boman and vermont have this very organic style & feeling... and they are not names you hear around very much.

vermont's cd has almost no beats and it still sounds huge...

I hear a lot of different styles and music... but it's got difficult to hear a album through and reallly say "wow"

As my number 1, Hernan says, "The music changes all over the time"

I think the music changes too, for good or for bad, depends where are you looking for and what are you looking for, luckily, for me, I find each week new producers making amazing tracks, The technology can damage the music used in a bad way, but, in good hands, the technology can be very usefull.

Re: Originality - is there less or more lately?

I don't mind the music today but originality? Not sure if I've heard anything truly original. I was into Max Cooper, it was at least kinda different, but it's still kinda IDM influenced. His Human album is interesting. I think when I first heard people like Audiofly, Monaque, Ghosting Season, I thought they sounded pretty original or at least fresh for that time but not sure if they've stood the test of time.

If I'm to go way back I'd say James Holden back then, he truly owned his sound and it was never replicated. I still remember his morning set at Earthcore in the outdoors, that was some crazy trippy trance. (And even when he started losing it with The Idiots Are Winning, well you can't fault him for not being original.)

Re: Originality - is there less or more lately?

 1. Define 'originality', within a musical context?

 2. If it simply means sounding or being different to the everyday artist/group then you simply aren't looking hard enough. With the advancement of technology, there really shouldn't be an excuse of finding something original from somewhere out there in the world.

 3. Music is your own objectivity and interpretation.

Re: Originality - is there less or more lately?

Some very true points made in this thread, I guess I just don't have the time and energy to find the gems anymore... I realize more music is accessible than ever in the history of mankind these days, but it makes sifting through all the shit that much more laborious. And that's the niche MS fills of course. Just wish there were more threads that pointed out the good mixes/tracks, or something, I dunno. :Gotcha:
