Still reeling from what happened yesterday to a friend of mine. She's 19 yrs old.

Her parents are divorced and both remarried and had other kids (all boys). They divorced when she was really young, like 16 years ago or so. Anyway, she stays at both her mom and dad's houses, changing from week to week. Yesterday, her mom gets an email from a tech site about the purchase of an item. She called them and asked what it was and they gave her the item #, date of purchased (in Feb), etc. It was bought by my friend's step-dad, her husband.

Turns out, it's a $150 digital alarm clock with a hidden camera in it. My friend has noticed it in the BATHROOM about 4 times, thought it was kind of odd, but assumed it was an alarm clock! She & her mom search the house for it and can't find it, but find the box for it hidden in his closet under a bunch of hats!

She tells me this and I'm freaking out. Her & her mom want to ask him about it but I told her to wait and next time it's in there try to get the SD card out of it. Anyway, he comes home and they ask him about it and he says "Oh it's for work. Someone's been stealing stuff out of offices." She says "Why was it the bathroom?" and he says "I was charging it; all the other plugs were full. You don't think I would................" I think it's BS because there are many outlets in the house.

And guess what else? The thing came with a remote control!!!!

She said "How come whenever I come into your office, you always black out your computer screen immediately, that makes me uncomfortable." and he acts all ashamed and admits he watches porn on there. (She's always telling us he's addicted to video games as well.) he never does the yard or anything normal dads do around the house.

My friend says she remembers seeing it on her mother's vanity (both have one in that bathroom) on the far edge, pointing towards to the shower each time, not near the outlet, but plugged in and stretched across the sink. okkkk????

I told her not to shower there ever again and to tell her dad. She doesn't want to tell her dad because she says he will fight her step dad (he's always been afraid of him), she doesn't want her mom & step dad to get a divorce for her little brother's sake, and she kind of believes her step dad, that it was all innocent. But, she stayed at our house last night!

Why did he hide the box under all his hats? Why wasn't he charging it at his own vanity? Why was it pointing towards the shower? To me, he is blatantly lying. Oh... he also purchased 2 sd cards with the alarm clock/camera. And he keeps taking it to/from work with him. ok WTF?????????? Her mom believes him!!! Her brother believes him!!! And she wants to believe him. I kept telling her "Hidden camera in bathroom pointed towards your shower cannot be explained in anyway that's normal!" Funny how her mom and little brothers never saw it in there, only my friend did. :Hijack:

Am I over-reacting?

Unless you have full proof, Occam's Razor i.e. Sometimes, the simplest explanation tends to be the right one.

Re: HIdden camera in home

Really? 4 times he's had a hidden camera pointed towards the shower (with glass doors), didn't tell anyone, innocent?

I really wish she had waited to get the sd card, that's the only proof.

Do you think she should tell her dad? (Thanks Kamal)

Re: HIdden camera in home

Trust your intuition, have you spent any amount of time with her stepdad? Does he seem like a creep? Woman's intuition is $$$ most of the time. Sad story though, nice of you to help. I see counseling in their future. The truth will come out eventually. Porn is fucked up in so many ways. I've watched it before but glad I stopped a while back... it def hurts more than helps a persons life.

I didn't realize it's 4 times. Whip his anus.

Re: HIdden camera in home

No, I haven't ever met him. But my friend said when she was little he never helped take care of her (bathe her) because he was so afraid of something being misconstrued and upsetting her father. (to me, that's odd also or is it respectful step-dad code? idk)

She said he was on the verge of tears and she felt really bad for him when they talked to him about it. I think you're right, the truth always surfaces. But, suspicion is an awful thing. I don't want to think about it anymore.

I wish she could afford to move out on her own though. Voyeurism is voyeurism... lots of ways to dismiss or overlook it until it happens to you. Tough being the only girl between the families, but I think she's going to believe him.

Is he a creep? Well, she has never really liked him much, never. To me, that's her intuition kicking in. (or maybe that's typical of anyone married to your mother whose not your dad?)

He apologized for not having her own shower fixed, for not telling his wife about the purchase & what was going on at work, and he wants things to go back to normal, I'm sure. No one wants to prosecute or destroy the family, it's still SUPER CREEPY in my book though.

I thought all men watched porn?

Thanks!!!!

Re: HIdden camera in home

I would make an anonymous call to the police saying you think he has child porn on his work computer, not sure the score in the US but that would have to investigated over here.

For all he knows it could have been a work colleague or cleaner that has seen it and called it in.

I bet they find video of his step daughter on there.

Re: HIdden camera in home

Sorry to contribute to the suspicion but it's rather odd that he leaves it lying around the home if it's for work: He can charge it at work, he can unload the SD card at work or bring just the card home. There's no reason to have the alarm clock in the house or carry it around.

If I'm him I wouldn't lug an alarm clock between home and office, too much hassle.

Does his office not have security cameras?

Is there anyway to still get the SD card? Disk recovery programs or a specialist might be able to salvage the content on it. Data is seldom lost nor deleted unless overwritten.

This situation reminds me of:

Re: HIdden camera in home

Also, when that comes out I bet the step daughter and wife look at the matter differently too.

Re: HIdden camera in home

Or even call his boss and say he has kiddy porn on his work computer, tell him he has to confiscate it and hand it over to the authorities to search, if he doesn't you will go to the press and report the company for knowingly allowing this to go on.

Re: HIdden camera in home

How old is your friend? There is no right reason for an alarm clock with a video camera to be in a bathroom - period. sad story/circumstance :(

Re: HIdden camera in home

That's exactly what I told her FL. It's that simple, just wrong!! She's only 19. One time, maybe... not 4 times though. Why is he lugging it around? Is this voyeurism worth destroying their family though?

His wife totally bought his story even with all the holes, but my friend isn't convinced he's innocent. I haven't heard from her today.

Thanks!!!

That movie "Doubt" is also what I thought of................ I don't want to get involved. I feel badly for my friend though.

Re: HIdden camera in home

Police investigation. Obtain warrant to forfeit and go through the camera. Probable causation on a breach of privacy and suspect to acts indecent conduct.

Simple.
