At clubs, at festivals, at outdoor venues. Should they be dancing with each other? Meeting those around them? Facing the dj and waiting for each track to drop and dancing inside their own minds? Does it even fucking matter what someone chooses to do at a club?

I recall there being debate about this, since back in the old days, people went to clubs to simply dance like maniacs, without being self conscious, but now, people don't really dance as much as they watch the dj.

So where do YOU stand on this topic? Personally, whatever a person wants to do at a club, or outdoor venue is their business/their money spent/their time spent. But I know there are other people who long for the way it used to be, where people would just go to dance and socialize with friends... not really giving a shit about what the dj was doing.

(the Argentina teaser video shows everyone with all eyes on Digweed btw).

Re: Crowd

I haven´t seen the dvd yet, but I can tell that it doesn´t matter the kind of show/venue/party... most of people here in Argentina just go shouting, screaming, pushing each other, getting nuts with any chemical shit and thinking that everything is like a football match. That´s why I quit going to massive events. I used to go and dance like crazy, listen to the music, do a little talking with people that went with me, and that was perfect!

Re: The crowd

Don't really care if people dance in circles or facing each other.

But not a fan of socializing on the floor or god forbid, as I've noticed in NY, groups on dance floors taking pictures of themselves non-stop—the fuck?

Back in the day there're always chill out rooms to hang and socialize with randoms, or step outside for a smoke and chat.

You quit going to massive events because you are old. That it is.

Re: The crowd

^^^lol....to an extent that is right though. I found the older I get, the less I could tolerate the crowds & people around me. At one point if someone gross & sweaty bumped into you, it was no biggie....then in my later 20's/early 30's is just grossed me out to the point where I wouldn't even dance in the main area....I'd find a quiet spot on the sides of the dance floor to dance & enjoy the music with my friends

Re: The crowd

i know i,m getting old.. last time i went to the arches is glasgow i thought it was too loud and i left not long after that lol.... its a generation thing florida, most of the manic dancing back then was driven by drugs ( as much as i hate to admit that ) even for those who were not on drugs i guess they just went along with the energy in the club... now its all record on the iphone..... i,ve got a great video to back me up as well.... let me get it

Re: The crowd

Hmmm

I use to go out 3 times a week and dance my ass off in my 20s... Finally was brave enough to take E in my 30s and abuse the shit out of it for 4 amazing years.... I couldn't even walk half the night. Then back to just alcohol from 34 to now... it's back to dancing as much as I can. I do run into old friends and socialize when I can.

Re: The crowd

I dance like hell, but like to face the DJ. Dancing in a circle around a pile of handbags is lame, but not worse than just videoing the entire time

Re: The crowd

 ^agreed..pretty much I do the same. But I go out a lot less here than I did in SoCal.

Re: The crowd

i go out a lot more now that I am back in Europe (I was in the US for 4 years). The scene in Vienna is good (grelle forelle is a really great club with a few good policies that i like, e,g, over 21's only, no cameras on the dancefloor). Also, budapest and bratislava are really close and they have good parties there too. Vienna has lots of techno and minimal, while budapest has lots of progressive.

Re: The crowd

I don't know how it is now, but I remember at W 27th when the DJ booth was right near the powerbar at the east end of the dancefloor, in an obscure little spot. The DJ booth was floor level and there was plexi glass shielding the DJ, and you had a few people who almost had their faces pressed up against it watching the DJ's every move, but that was it, a few people. The rest of the dance floor went on dancing not worrying about what the DJ was doing.

Sometime in 2000 they changed it so the DJ booth was on the southside, and raised off of the ground. At almost any spot on the dance floor you could now see the DJ and what he was doing. This caused most people on the dance floor to face the DJ Booth and dance less. People were still raising their hands, pumping their fists, jumping up and down, but no real dancing.

Re: The crowd

Dance..I have been out this year more than the previous 3 years combined. Sober on most occasions...it didn't matter if it was a local opener or closer or main act I jist wanted to put my head down and dance.

I almost knocked some 20 year olds out who kept staring at me.....turns out they just wanted drugs.

Festival crowds are shit...being amongst roid freaks and skanks as they pout and flex as their fake tans are sweating away...for me kills the vibe...

The photo fanfare is a bit much too...limit it to 1 or 2 snaps max...not a 45 minute youtube clip.

Some clubs in Europe (eg trouw and Berghain/panorama bar) have banned it....I think it is a good thing.

Re: The crowd

In many cases people taking photos probably rarely get the chance to see these big name dj's who rarely come to their town or whatever.

Looks like the "crowd" isn't the only one taking photos anyway:

Re: The crowd

Put away your fucking cameras. All you have there is a souvenir of a moment you forgot to live. They are banned now in Trouw. More clubs should do the same.

Re: The crowd

Why anyone watches a dj is absolutely beyond me. What could be more dull? What are you hoping to see? Like watching the cloakroom guy all night and getting a buzz each time he hangs up a stranger's coat. Insane

Re: The crowd

No, but thanks for asking. If you're after some kind of reaction you're not going to get one. I left school a while back now. Not sure why you called me a dummy and not sure what I've done to get banned from mercury server so thought I'd ask. Then I realised you're only after attention and your posts are meaningless and dull so i'll leave you to it. Have a great Christmas, hope you get yourself sorted soon
