The new Modest Mouse Cd??

Don't know if anyone is into indie? But the Flaming Lips (one of my personal fav's) were in on this and I personally think it's an amazing piece of work.

Also digging the new Morrissy

anyway just asking your opinions on something out of the box

bummer. Modest Mouse rules. In all honestly with 7 hours of prog i can listen to in one day, i do get a little burned out. nice to do a switch to classic rock, to bob, punk, jazz, etc. try it. when you got back to prog, you blow a load in your pants. promise.

I think every one of his posts are like this, a few emoticons or a brief and utterly simplistic statement like, "John Digweed be great. :Bingo: "

It just cracks me up

So true. Within the course of a single day it is not uncommon for me to listen to Digweed, Slayer, NOFX, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Jadakiss, Lamb of God and Fox Sports radio. And never think twice about it.

I've never heard of Modest Mouse, but if the Flaming Lips are involved I'm sure its very interesting.

I'm also loving the new Morrisey cd. Saw him for my birthday at the Apollo of all places and it was great.

#209033Post 12 of 25

the modest mouse cd is great. just got it the other day, but morrisey? haven't given his new cd a chance, but isn't he a little past his prime?

#209037Post 13 of 25

modest mouse has been around for a while... and this new one isn't the best cd they have released... BUT... it is still damn good... they are a consistent band and i'm glad to finally see them getting some exposure...

i could never listen to 'progressive' all day long though... i would either fall asleep or gouge my ears with a screwdriver...

it has to be variety... everything and anything under the sun, musically speaking...

#209176Post 14 of 25

every one of my cds in my cd book is progressive, except for a chili peppers mp3 cd, beck mp3 cd, a primus mp3 cd, and metallica mp3 cd. If I ever get burnt out on progressive I listen to however many hours of mp3s you can fit on 4 cds... but it doesn't happen very often.

I'm glad to see this thread getting some response...

I don't post here much or haven't in the past, but I have looked at the view of many on more than several occasions. And it seems that for most progressive is the only thing they enjoy anymore. Although it is refreshing to see that their are some open minds on the board.

I must admit I rarely get down with much of what is considered "progressive" today, the mindset is a little too regressive for me. Although there are many notable exceptions by some of the major leaders of the genre, such as Digweed and Howells for example, who are open minded and realize that one cannot close themselves off to things that don't fit the progressive mold.

House music is my staple through and through, but there are also many others in different places that are doing it right.

It's important to grasp the big picture. Because there are fresh ideas all over the place and for music to take steps forward everyone should learn by listening to what others are doing.

I guarantee, that none of your favorite artists listen to simply one style of music. So I believe that it is important for the listeners to see what else is out there.

This is just my opinion so if you don't agree, fine. But I would like to hear an explanation :)

I think you nailed the Jimmy on the Johnson. What a bore to be black or gray. Esp when you got color tv.

Outside of progressive I'm really digging Jack Johnson and Grandaddy at the moment. Morissey is absolutely classic and everything he touches seems to turn to gold in my opinion.

That is very true. I remember reading an interview with Tom Araya, the lead singer and bass player for Slayer. He said his favorite artist of all time was Roy Orbison. He said he didn't even listen to metal at all. I remember thinking how cool and different it was that the person who is resposible for some of the most brutal and frightening music ever kicked on ol' Roy to relax. Classic.

I once heard an interview with DJ Shadow where he said that the first thing he does whenever going to a city is visit the local record store and search through all their dusty bins. In this era of chain stores it's a shame you can't do that anymore. If you can find it in Atlanta you can probably find it in Tokyo. I remember when that wasn't always the case. To me progressive means having an open mind to everything. Supporting local artists also seems to have gone the way of the dodo bird.

Well, I spend most of my day with music on, so it would be maddening to listen to just progressive, here?s some of the stuff I listened the past 2 days :

London Elektricity  , Tiefschwarz, Meat Katie, Fear Factory, Eamon, Lostprophets, Taproot, Primal Scream and Felix Da Housecat.

I just listened to a few "progressive"/house tracks while messing around with Ableton Live.
