seems to be many many many old school cd's out there just now which have been remastered to fit with todays sounds, in some ways i think that is a good thing in other ways i,m not so sure because its takes away the original sound as it was at the time

some examples http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BHRA4HY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

just been listening to this... it great and well mastered, sounds great and you can tell from the waveform its been done professionally, you can tell they haven't just been run through an already made up preset

bad mastering looks like the pic below, everything squashed up to the 0db line and limited

Re: old school cd's (remastered )

^ that´s not a pro mastering waveform... it needs more compression to reach commercial levels.

I´m not a fan of hard compression, but if you want killer basses, this is the way

this is an old argument and some of the best in the game have been at each others throats for a long time... i'd say your examples are wrong... you can work more on the mix and perfect the sound rather than just squashing up everything to the wall like in these examples

actually my examples are zoomed in a bit unlike yours that are zoomed all the way out... my second example is just a blue square when i zoom out

I´m not saying I like that kind of compression... but extract audio from any edm music cd you like, and take a look...

some yea... smashing it up to the wall has become fashionable especially in bass driven music like you mentioned but there are still plenty examples of making a tune just as loud with older techniques ( tunes from carl craig, phaeleh and hidden orchestra ) imo this is professionally done the right way and not just smashed through a pre set on a compressor
