interesting quote from sasha
Finally, I'm curious as to how you view your career today. You were once the biggest DJ in the world and I think you'd be the first to admit that that's no longer the case. However, I get the sense that that doesn't concern you—that you're happy in this new stage in your career. Would you agree?

Yes, it really doesn't bother me. Maybe there was a time three or four years ago when I was still chasing something, but when I was being booked into main stages of festivals, expected to play commercial dance music, I started to realise I didn't belong there any more. I'm really comfortable where I'm at. I understand where I fit in the food chain. I'd much rather be enjoying what I'm doing, working all the time, than having to go and play a load of records I don't really care about. Music is the most important thing, and with the label, the residencies and the people I'm surrounding myself with, I'm really happy with where I'm at. I could be chasing the Las Vegas dollars, but I've kind of been there and done that. I'm much happier to be playing interesting music with people I really like than stressed out about whether I'm number three or four in the DJ charts.

At the turn of the Century Sasha was the biggest DJ in the world. Kudos to him for not selling out to playing that commercial crap and staying true to his roots.

Re: nice RA article about ibiza + sasha interview

Sasha doesn't seem over impressed with the Ushuaia Towers residency .. the venue is good and free is always nice, however musically Sasha needs a decent residency to get his teeth into. I've been to the Matthew Dear, Ewan Pearson, and Cassy nights there and agree that M. Dear and Cassy played stormers.

It's all short sets these days, I'd love to see him doing more of The Loft style dates with 7 hours .. the 90 mins and 2 hour sets here & there has hi playing a lot of the same music even though he's got a lot of other stuff sat there on his drive.

I agree with Dixon's comments about prices, VIP culture and commerciality ... but I've still had amazing times this year .. albeit because Diggers has been on top form from Mambo (Diggers has played an hour there several times) to the Pacha residency to the DAR vs. Bedrock sunset cruise (3 hour set to 120 people taking in the sunset on boat with the same soundsystem as DC10s).

Pacha have thrown on the odd special invite night at their posh new resort Destino (you can email for invites) where Guy Gerber and Art Dept was epic. Gerber's Wisdom of The Glove residency saw him play a stormer with lots of his fabric music along with Sasha (best set from him that I've seen this summer).

Best of the lot, underneath Destino is Tox Club (holds 300 - 500) ... Diggers has played an afterparty and a night there .. the club is stunning and has the crispest Martin Audio monitors ... John played a dark brooding intense set there full of completely new music that was a complete masterclass.

I dont know about this. He seemed pretty happy when i saw an interview of him a while back stating that he actually enjoyed playing at venues like Ushuaia just because it would allow him to play differently and for once he would have girls on the dancefloor and not a sausage fest...lol

Re: nice RA article about ibiza + sasha interview

Sasha did like the original venue (now La Plage) however the answers now are probably PR based .. I have it on good authority that he will be playing a different venue/night in 2014 ;)
