Obviously they receive promos and go to record shops. But in cases like with Sasha, who plays some of the most eclectic and random stuff out there, how does he find all these tunes that he plays?

i really dont think Sasha plays anything really underground. looking at his last few tracklists, nothing shocking. that's not to say it's not good, i'm just saying, he's not revolutioary like he used to be with record hunting...part of which i think is due to success and not crate digging on your own.
this goes for a lot of time jocks imo.

this goes for a lot of time jocks imo.[/quote] Every now and again he pulls something out of his arse. For instance, when he dropped Tiefschwarz's remix of Freeform 5 - 'Electromagnetic' when he was here in Orlando. The way he chopped it up in Ableton sounded superb.

I would argue that Sasha does not go to record stores. Beatport, relationships with the freshest artists, and a priveleged soulseek account BTW do a lot of you guys use Kazaa? I found that shit riddled with adware and practically useless

Mostly the reason why his tracks are not as obscure as they once were is because of the internet and all these P2P clients which spread brand new tracks like wildfire. So therefore when you go to a club...if you're a dj, you've probably downloaded about 2/3rds of what that dj has that is spinning. Only you've downloaded it from the net as most of them get it sent to them from the actual producers.

Sasha has an infinate amount of monkeys, with an infinate amount of time, the entire works of Shakespeare should be within his grasp, sadly all his monkeys can do is pull a few good big name tunes out of the hat.

yes, the tracks find sasha ... I guarantee that someone like nick warren has WAY more breadth of musical knowledge than sasha ... but sasha has an incredible ear for what will take people to THAT place ... wondering if he'll start playing some remixes of Alex Smoke. That "don't see the point" song .... I can HEAR the mix Sasha could do of that to DESTROY a dancefloor!

I know a few people that have seen Sasha at record stores in the last couple of years. He still gets a lot of stuff from Massive Records in the UK. Probably more online than anything.
I'm sure most of his stuff he gets for free, but he's a DJ. He loves to dig through record bins like the rest of us.

I recall from interviews with Sasha that he has someone or some people go through tracks for him first. I'm sure he gets hundreds of producers sending their tracks to him.
I recall him mentioning the FTP thing too. And I recall him saying he just goes to the record store.

I somehow doubt Sasha goes to record stores anymore, since he mostly spins exclusively on CD-R's now. He gets his tracks through a private FTP, through building rapport with top producers, and through other record labels. A DJ of his status has no time or reason to go record-hunting anymore.

DAMNNnnnnnn hahahahahahahahahaha Im pretTY suRe he Gets his stuff from there hahahahahahahahah x 1000 Im pretTy sure he used to dig up his own records at one time but now most top producers probably come to him themseleves if they feel they are up to his standards and that he would even play the music theyre making. and yeah the fact about how p2p and other file sharing programs have made new tracks spread like wildfire soo if u are really into this muzaIk and U got tHa skIlls then u would have Most of the tracks Dj's play in their sets these days, but its always good to hear what theyre playing and what new tracks they have to offer to u.....after all thats what their JOB iss :P

I remember someone posting on GU board that the "Sasha tunes" were pretty good this week, meaning this was a person who works for him and samples the stacks sent to him via the postal service and then passes the good ones on to him. Also, guys like Pole Folder call him up and say hey, check out my new tune! Must be nice.
