Anyone have experiences with learning a new language when you're an adult? What worked for you and what did you find most helpful? I took a few years of spanish classes but I never became fluent. I would really like to try to become fluent in it but I'm not sure where to start.

Re: Learning a new language?

go live there.

I took korean classes for about 6 months and was almost conversational by the end of it just by living in the country.

I took french classes for who knows how many years and couldn't really speak very well until I moved there.

i good first test for your spanish would be to go find out what happened to the warung beach video. oh wait, would that be portuguese? i don't know! i'm american!

Re: Learning a new language?

Picked up Japanese just from uni for 2 years, having a gf that was Japanese helped...writing gone now sadly but I can get back to a decent level if need be

Immersion definitely helps....my croatian is ok, grammatically weak but I try to speak/text everyday with friends but a mere 3 months there a few years ago and it skyrocketed.

I want to learn Portuguese and fuck off to Brazil...I have the books and cds.....time is a factor. Also the frequency or probability of speaking it will affect your desire to learn I think.

Meh tired.

Good luck though.

You’re more likely to be struck by lightning than learn a language from a girl
