My son is now 7.5mos old & returning to work is looming in the background. It is literally breaking my heart that I would have to leave him with some stranger every day instead of being with me. I am literally losing sleep over it....I feel in my heart I am meant to be a stay at home mom, but life costs too much these days for that to happen :(

I am trying to find a way work from home (ideally part time as i have to work when he's napping & in the evenings) as we still need some income.....everything I see online for work from home jobs seems like a giant scam.....so my question is, do any of you or someone you know work from home? If so, how did you find a job like that? Do you have any advice/suggestions?

Good luck. Working from home (as I have for the past 4 years) is not easy. Adding a baby to the equation makes it even tougher. Try to look down the road another 5 months. He will be walking around and getting into EVERYTHING. He will want your attention whether Mommy needs to get work done or not. I don't really think it's possible, unless you have a family member who is willing to take the baby for several hours throughout the day. You simply won't get work done. The reason I am able to do it, is two-fold. 1) I am a working actor making just enough income to stay afloat (thank you god, most actors have 2nd jobs). My family helps a lot. My dad will come over, my Aunt will take him, my nephew, my Mom, sister, etc... It literally takes all of those family members help at different times due to scheduling just to allow me to do what I do. Then again when I am working, I am needed for a couple days or whatever and can't be home with him.

If you don't have a bunch of willing family members, get used to the idea of daycare real fast. Daycare nowadays isn't what it used to be. The plus side too is your son will have kids to play with and socialize with... my son loved it, the few times he was there due to not having anyone available at a moments notice. Your son will eventually be in kindergarden and away from you anyway, so it's not that big of a deal. Having said that, I know what you mean and know how blessed I am to be home with my son. However, there are many days where he literally wears me out. :lol: kids are handfuls and full time jobs in and of themselves.

I did a corporate stint in medical device sales for a few years, outside of that, i've always worked for myself. I just do better taking an idea, and going out and getting it done without oversight/management. That said, while I "work from home" I typically travel a few days a week to prospect, meet clients, etc, to build my business which isn't really the kind of working from home you're talking about. My wife is a PMP in IT- Information Technology is an industry with with lots telecommuting possibilities, as I hear her talk of lots of team members, developers, vendors, etc that telecommute. I'm not sure what your education background is, but some of the IT knowledge base isn't too difficult or lengthly to obtain if you're keen to that sort of work. Might be worth a look. There are also lots of at home sales jobs if you're phone savvy, but that's a contact sport, and you're going to not only be weeding through lots of bullshit jobs to find a good fit, but the amount of rejection can be a drain. Another idea off the top of my head...since you already have a kid, maybe consider picking up a few more from friends, contacts, etc to nanny during the day while you watch your own and pick up some cash on the side?... I have a friend that does that, makes sense if you can play zone defense and juggle multiple kids...I...could not. lol.

Lots of ways to make money in this part of the world if you've got a bit of sense about you and are able to communicate with people. Best of luck on your search!

Well I already work part time at home for Avon (I sell a bit of stuff, but I am there district support - answer a VM box & maintain email communications for my boss so I actually get a bi-weekly pay from them plus commission on my own personal sales (but that is peanuts lol))

I guess I am looking for something similar or something like maintaining a companies website & social media type thing.....I do have IT experience (degree in networking & tech support) but I'd be pretty rusty as I've been in reception & customer retention (mailings, follow up calls, placing ads, etc) for the past 5yrs & before that I worked in HR for 3yrs (HR Management post grad).

i thought about taking in one or 2 more kids but I'd be worried about liabilities if they got hurt somehow.

floridaorange I understand what u r saying about sucking it up & send him to daycare as he will be in school soon enough.....but that is te point.....I have 3 years where I get to be fully apart of my sons life....then he is off into the real world.....and once in school I want to be there for him....I want to b at his plays, sport events etc. I know it's a hope & pray away to having this happen as my hubby & I aren't rich & have amazing jobs....but I don't want to look back & regret not trying to find a way....dunno if I'm making sense here....just expressing what I feel

Stay at home mom makes $4540 every day with one weird trick! I got started as a ghost writer a few years ago. The pay is generally okay, but the work is mind-numbingly shit and you need to get samples and work your way up FAST or you'll go crazy. Some places where I think you could get started quick are demandmedia and textbroker. Google them and drop an app if you're interested. I can vouch that neither of them are scams. Demand are kinda cunts, but they pay well if you can get the work and deal with their requirements. Textbroker varies, but I think they pay twice a week and there is generally a lot of work if you don't mind writing about dumb shit. Speaking of dumb shit, fiverr is a good place to do dumb shit for very little money. Remember those MS birthday vids I posted a few years ago? Fiverr. I dunno about social media and all that, to be honest I think it's all a joke. That said, you might wanna check out elance and guru to see if there's anything out there. I've found work and hired people from elance without any issues, except for a Pakistani writer who couldn't asctually write. My best hustle online was finding companies who needed websites on craigslist and then hiring SEasians on elance to do the work for me. lol Don't forget to save 30% for when the tax man rapes you.

i do some work for textbroker every now and then, I think I wrote for them when I was home last summer. I moved away from client work and more towards running my own shitty websites until I got bored with that/google killed my spamring and took my internet monies. I'm trying to only spend my time on stuff I actually care about these days.

you´ll go crazy being at home all day long! Isn´t there any place to leave your baby near your job? so you can go every couple of hours to feed him and stuff. Ladies here where I work do that. Of course, it´s not free, and the boss here is kinda flexible. My sister does that, too, and it seems to work fine with her. but going back to your question, I don´t know anyone working from home AND getting well paid. :not me:

If I do go back I will definitely be looking into a place near work so I can go see him on my lunch hour....the main worry is $ for daycare....babies under 18mos are anywhere from $40-$50 a day where I live.....with the amount I make at work the majority of my pay goes to paying someone else to be with my son....I guess that's the main part I struggle with :-/

we ran into this situation, so my wife has stayed at home to take care of the kids. we have 2 young'ins, a 3 yr old and a 7 month old. unfortunately we do not really get help from family so this is the situation that works best for us. it doesnt allow us to make a whole lot of money since half of our income is gone but it has taught us to be highly efficient with the money i do take home. now that the eldest is almost ready for pre k and as soon as he is in school we will consider day care for the little one. 2 kids in daycare and one being so young my wife would have to work just to pay daycare, so it doesnt make sense that she work right now and stay at home with the kids.

This is our situation.....no family to help out as my parents are gone 1/2 the year & my husbands family is 2hrs away
