So now that Twitter has been around a little while and showing no signs of going away, I'm interested to hear from the MS members as to whether or not they find Twitter of use. I don't use it at all, but several of my friends do and seem to benefit from it. I work in the entertainment business so when things are "trending" that's valuable info for various reasons. I'm not sure how else though Twitter is of use besides learning about breaking news or perhaps communicating to the outside world in an arab spring scenario.

Re: Twitter

it's useless for me. Most people post things that no one cares about. Anyways, take it from a man that doesn't use facebook

Re: Twitter

i never bothered with twitter!

could see the point in listening to everyones useless shit!

the concept of first hand information in real time is kind of cool, its just i imagine its only .02% of all tweets

I've got facebook, but dont use it, apart from posting holiday pics so my family can see them (i live in another country)

Re: Twitter

Twitter was good for me, brilliant actually. Was good to keep up to date on any topic I was interested in.....

Following nobodies is futile though. E.g. it would be pointless if the people on this thread were to join twitter and follow one another..it would just be like watching status updates on Facebook.

Facebook is for following people you went to school with, twitter is for following people you wish you went to school with.

Some twitter aficionado said that..in the I quit, spending too much time procrastinating

Re: Twitter

Some djs post their track lists in live updates via twitter. Excellent to follow football journos for transfer news etc

99% of twitter users are making up the numbers, 1% provide anything worthwhile.

We are the 99%

That's the part I'm a little interested in... just so many people I wouldn't want to follow, it's kind of daunting. What kind of insight can you get with 14 characters or whatever the # is though?

Mostly links to interesting stuff. Pictures, videos. One interesting person takes you another one, etc. And the other part is easy, if you see one of them starts posting things you don't find interesting, "unfollow" and you move on.

take the main music sites for instance. Pitchfork. I don't go to their site and start reading, trying to find something I like but instead via twitter I see the headlines and when there's an article that caught my eye, I access it via their twitter feed.

You'd have to have shit for brains to follow them..economist has regional accounts, numerous news agencies posting the latest news, abundance of tech bloggers, sport updates/blogs, porn if you insist, djs and lulz ahoy.

Krystan has summed it up well...

This is true. Humanity surely reached a point of decreasing marginal returns, we have entered the de-evolutionary phase of our existence.
