This is so wrong! A website called ProducerFactory.com allows you to purchase someone's track and sell it as one of your own. Ghostwriting has been around for a while, but this is like taking it to a whole new level.

Have we hit an all-time low in society where we assume we don't have to work for anything and money can buy whatever we want?

not gonna open that link at work, but if it is how you say it is darin....... how is that even legal? that sounds even more unethical than illegal downloads.

Re: So wrong! ProducerFactory.com

basically some bedroom producers are making the tracks, they then sell it to that site - then if people like it, they can buy the full rights to it? Is that the scenario?

Its like all those peole that write for Rihanna but she makes the tracks herself, but they get the songwriting credit.

In this scenario - someone does ALL the work and receives ZERO credit? (but a payment) ??

It's called being a democrat. :) And yes the idea of ghostwriting and existence of that website is a total shame. Saw a post by Kate Simko the other day on FB that someone had release one of her remixes as their own track and selling it on Beatport. Ridiculous...

I dunno bud, my super right wing friend (by birth not choice) is a singer/songwriter, he's paid money to increase in youtube hits. Same thing really. Cheating is cheating is cheating. It's not about being a dem or repub. It's about having integrity.

The reason I'm not shocked is the entertainment business is super cut throat like any other business. SOME people are willing to do anything to "make it." They think $$$ is more important than morals. Misguided in some cases, desperate in others, but mostly just dishonest.

Unkle have been doing for years. Lavelle gets the band together, they knock out some tracks, Lavelle puts his name on the track.

Re: So wrong! ProducerFactory.com

Pretending to mix now pretending to produce.

What next? Pretending to listen and pretending to like the music?

Re: So wrong! ProducerFactory.com

Something similar happens with spooky and sasha if I remember well, right ??

#1688715Post 14 of 32

Re: So wrong! ProducerFactory.com

Ah ok I think I remember, but I was under the impression that tracks were co-produced with spooky doing more than his fair share...

Not familiar with this topic, I think my perceptions will be somewhat more jaded and muddled than before.

Re: So wrong! ProducerFactory.com

No, I think that "spooky" made a track, and sasha put his name on it. But Im not sure, I cant remember.

Re: So wrong! ProducerFactory.com

It appears we have hit a low. I was going to say try to tell the stereotypical rich kid who wants to be a superstar dj that he has to work for years and suffer numerous setbacks, sacrifices, and rejections as opposed to buying a track and releasing it as a hit overnight.

But if well known artists are doing it (the buying and releasing part) then thats a major problem that erodes a decent chunk of credibility out of individuals and the "scene" as well...

Thats for me though, my view is often a bit more warped when in comparison to the norm.

Re: So wrong! ProducerFactory.com

This is like the black sox scandal where the kid says "say it aint so bo!"

What next? No santa?

Also been going on for years, some DJ's who made good earnings in the 90's and carved out a carrier fell out of love with the music a long time ago, but they are used to earning a good wage and living better life style than they could earn if they had a proper job, some they continue.

Darren Emerson made a track with Charlie May while Sasha sat around watching TV. Sasha's name was on the release.

Re: So wrong! ProducerFactory.com

this is hilarious. you can outsource anything these days

someone should create a fake dj profile, buy a few shitty tracks, buy some fake mixes, then buy fans, likes, tweets, pins and tweedilies on fiverr. then hire a fake overseas manager on odesk to get the fake dj real gigs, then out the idiocy on a casestudy on your tumblr and be famous on the front page of reddit for a day while you de.li.cious your digg and stumbleupon your G+ girlfriend's yahoo

Re: So wrong! ProducerFactory.com

Good, glad to see I'm not alone on this.

What if JK Rowling hadn't written Harry Potter? What if George Lucas hadn't written Star Wars?

See where I'm going with this? When you go out and pay money to see someone perform, don't you want to see the real talent behind the music you love?

No if Star Wars was your bag would you dislike it less if you found out someone else wrote it. Oh and neither of your examples performed in either Harry Potter or Star Wars. When you go out to a performance you want to see a performance, I can't imagine Jk being much of a performer either.

Re: So wrong! ProducerFactory.com

When you go and see Fathless do you cry because Rollo isn't there?

#1689104Post 27 of 32

Re: So wrong! ProducerFactory.com

^^^^^ That not make sense because rollo was part of the group in the beginning, and he contributed with the songs, doesn't matter if the group continue playing the songs now.

Rollo never performed with the group. He just wrote and created tracks.

You would still enjoy Star Wars but George wouldn't be a household name and making millions of dollars. That's all I was saying.

Re: So wrong! ProducerFactory.com

I find this sadder

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=524681397597705

Def Jam relying on Facebook likes to decide who to sign.

It's quite sad that Def Jam have to resort to these sort of tactics. I haven't watched the video but if the girl is that good sign her. It says a lot when some record hippie at Def Jam can't follow their instinct so has to resort to likes on Facebook
