I've been really pondering an Electric Bike

No not the one's that'll take a box full of double Ds but a legit offering.

ZERO S ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE

These guys have been in the news quite a bit but they don't come cheap. At nearly $14K, it's not really pocket change but the savings are instant from the day you get on it, except for what it costs to charge.

85 mile range, 2.5 hours at 110 V to charge to full, no oil needed for the pure electric motor. Other than brakes and tires (and the occasionally blowing bulbs/indicators/fuses), this one is a miser on your pocket.

Presently, with my car, provided I don't travel out of town a given weekend, I can easily go 10 working days with $20 gas in my car. So saving $40/Month on gas seems a marginal tradeoff.

But then again, for those already considering to get a bike / new toy, it sure seems like a lot of fun.

Re: I've been really pondering an Electric Bike

Come over and ride up the hill I live on. Other than the fact that there's no curb-side and it's real easy to become the next visitor at the local trauma center, my heart will be half out of my mouth if I make it up to the top of the hill.

Yeah... it's a hybrid but they also do mtb and road versions. Really cool bikes... Battery's are removable but flush with the downtube.

Re: I've been really pondering an Electric Bike

Can someone here explain to me the benefits of fixed gear road bikes? Are they fast? Comfortable? Fun? Also, how does the fixed gear part work? Is the speed or gear adjustable at all?

If I'm not wrong a fixed gear or fixie is single speed, nothing's adjustable. It isn't a free wheel either, so you can't cruise on one, your legs are always moving with the pedals. I tried one once and found it extremely irritating. I imagine going down a hill on one must be a pain.

I think people like them because 1) hipsters, 2) they're super-light since there's nothing on them, 3) easy to maintain since there's nothing on them. Arguably the purest form of a bicycle.

Re: I've been really pondering an Electric Bike

^Thanks Feather, I asked that question 3 yrs ago, I've since learned what a "fixie" is, but, I appreciate the answer .

Those two reasons, yes. They're also good courier/commuter bikes in a flat city. If you're only going a few blocks, fussing with gears would be a pain in the ass.

I prefer to go really fast and long distances which is why I have a road bike.
