SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Online search engine leader Google Inc. has unveiled a new feature that will enable its users to zoom in on homes and businesses using satellite images, an advance that may raise privacy concerns as well as intensify the competitive pressures on its rivals.

The satellite technology, which Google began offering late Monday at [url]http://maps.google.com[/url], is part of the package that the Mountain View-based company acquired when it bought digital map maker Keyhole Corp. for an undisclosed amount nearly six months ago.

Yeah, Google purchased a satellite imagery company about 6 mos ago. Until now individuals had to pay roughly $30 in order to utilitze the service. Late last night Google began offering satellite queries for free.

I was playing around with this for about 30 min today... pretty awesome. I was checkin out the whole Bay Area, where I work, where I used to work... etc.

Too bad they didn't have any imagery of the middle east or anything like that. I'd like to get some close ups of some areas around there too! :)

i hate Wal mart, they put one in a few miles from my Long Island office and i can already the ghetto and white trash areas growing from towns around it....

that place has no good, wasnt it you ska who put up that survey about how wal mart destroys areas, both economically and in property values?
