Hi there! I'm posting this because I know there are some audio junkies in the forum :P I've just bought a new pair of loudspeakers, because my old ones don't work any more. I have my home studio with krk audio monitors, but the ones I've just got are for my room (big space), where I always listen to music (and I also move them to listen to music at the kitchen/dinning room). I bought the Cambridge Audio model S30, bookshelf type, 2 way speakers. They sound very good, nice and soft Hi frequencies, and excellent definition through all the audio bandwidth. The basses are very good, but there's little sub low (small woofer). It is the best I could find for that amount of money. Here are some pics from the web:

I'm getting them warm with a little michael mayer "IMMER 3" ;)

Re: my new toy

Thank you, Dom :). I have two ProAC Pros that cost more than a high class whore.

I mean, that's impressive for bookshelf speakers.

Re: my new toy

yes, bi-wiring if you want to. If not, you keep the golden plate bridging the two contacts. I paid the new pair of speakers u$s 260-, to a friend that´s in the audio business. The price of the dealers is u$s 320-. I don´t know if it´s cheap or not, but here in Argentina is very hard to find these type of electronic gear. And if so, it´s very expensive. I´ll look forward for a nice hi-fi amp in a couple of months.I´m using a vintage Philips tuner/amp, made in Germany, and I have to say that it sounds good (note: the eq and the bass boost is shit). I have a hi-fi Sony CD player (rare model, I don´t remember it now) and a nice Sansui 10+10 band eq -1992 Japan (I only use it to correct the room resonances).

sbando, nice speakers there! I´d love to have a pair of them. Maybe a couple of yeras in the porn business can do the job :)

Re: my new toy

It is the pr0n who paid for the ProACs! Revered loudspeakers, but too British-sounding (I learned the lesson) and 100% sensitive to the place they are and correct positioning (learned the lesson 2).

360$, as What-Hifi always says, it's not the cheap, it's the bang for your buck. If the speakers are good for that price, they are gold.

I wouldn't call ProAcs British sounding, they are about as non British as you can get imho, very bright and tiring. But, your comment really interests me, I always think of British Sounding as warm and liquidy. But I guess you guys don't at all?

I am thinking Mission, Arcam, Meridian, AE, ATC, Chord, Creek, Linn, Quad, Rotel, SME, Spendor, Ruark. All a very laid back top end but plenty of detail.

I take it you found the ProAcs bright as well? And I haven't just got the wrong end of the stick.....as I usually do! :D

Re: my new toy

If you want a nice bookshelf, try the Rocksan TR5 ribbon speaker.

AMAZING!!!!

One of the best small speakers I have heard at any price. I was lent a pair to test and see what I thought, I never gave them back.

Funnily enough I was lent them after moaning how much I hated these that I had just bought...
