is this for your phone to access? What type of things did you choose to include in your server?

WAP is the most pointless thing I have EVER come into contact with.

http://www.winksite.com for my "site" (with really a bunch of links for now; I'm trying to set up some other features, but'll do so later down the road)

Dependent on the model of the phone it has to have a minibrowser obviously (mine's a Nokia). You then have to plug in a code to access the NAM settings (which in Verizon's case has the server IP for their WAP server, etc.) and change it to, in this case my IP (or whichever service you're using).

Using WapGW through my broadband connection...runs like a proxy server.

Tunnel into my IP connection, then UDP port forwarded through my router.

http://www.howardforums.com is great to anser and look up questions and features for most any phone/service

Really I wanted it to browse the news/sports stories, weather, etc...as I said Verizon charges you for all that on WAP or through their Get It Now! programs, which is a load of crap. Unfortunately, they are also blocking some free WAP gateways, because they really want your $$$

Oh yea, also got a lot of ringtones on my computer and this beats buying a $30 data cable (of which the $$ I don't have) to send them to the phone..

I've seen a wap porn site - it was, as you can imagine, extremely crap.

Suck to be you 2nd generation mobile peasants...

On my 3G phone I can load up any website on the net. And my connection on my phone is 384kb/s. Not too shabby.

Pity the US is still miles behind with their 3G networks.

I know...it absolutely blows. Any technology like that here won't get utilized because everyone's either too dumb to try and use it, or the providers don't care to R&D the technology enough to be fully utilized.

Or, like I said, they try to make it cool, when it isn't (ala VZW's "Get It Now")

Yep; except every time I tried to get in, the databases were being overused so I couldn't connect too well..:(

Winksite was just to get links going; I could make a .wml page on my IP if I wanted to instead for it..but just wanted to at least get it up and running.

Now I've also got AIM going...

Alas, I will need that data cable...VZW has basically blocked downloading of ringtones & pics via WAP, so you "need" their Get It Now bit....cheap a-holes. I'll have to use MobiMB (and even then it's a bit of a workaround, not that I need it, but you can't set up individual profile ringtones and the like; thanks VZ again)

Go to http://www.reqwireless.com/ and get their webviewer. Its ~ 15USD but you can view any html page and are not limited to WAP only. I've had this for a while now and it works great. :Bingo:
