WMC in retrospect

WMC this year was COMPLETELY different from previous years for me:

This year was dominated (and I mean fucking dominated) by all of the brand new shit that the EDM masses hadn't really been exposed to. I mean, there were like 100 people at some of these shows. It rocked to be able to bounce 4 shows in one night and only having to pay cover to one of them. Granted I did shell out for Infusion at Crobar but I think that was it.

The Movim party was good aside from the rain...so we went over to Laid '05...which was real sick.

Although I had planned on going to Porterhouse, I unfortunately was not able to attend...and instead went to...brace yourself...Tiesto at Space. Bunch of 250 pound, fake tanned, gold necklace-wearin, massive forearm pumpin in the air, rolling their nuts off, holding on to thier girl (who looks 12) motherfuckers. Man, that was not cool at all. But my roommate wanted to go to Space once and that was the only night it fit in.

but i liked the general new vibe...what about you?

^ Why does that sound so wierd. Muscle head freaks rollin on E and hanging out w/ 12 yr girls. Glad you had fun at WMC. I really should make it down there one of these yrs. This yr I decided I wanted to buy new dj equipment instead of miami.

Re: WMC in retrospect

this was my sixth year and although it was a tad different i thought it was one of the best. the vibe seemed really good this year as long as you avoided the spring breakers. the records were great which is the whole reason i go every year and i just had a great time. (i do think that pump up the jam record and the smack my bitch up record were cheesy but other then that the new records were dropping all over the place)

till next year

Re: WMC in retrospect

I definitely didn't check out any Tiesto shows

I'm thinking next year I don't want to hit up the big, expensive parties... I had a blast at the Spleen records party and Hallucination, and want to play next year like just like that. Be somewhere where I can keep rolling in and out of the building for free, lots of good/different music, and close to the hotel. Next year I think I'll pass on the Ultra after party and just check up with the local shit. I definitely regret missing the 7 hour Burridge set for Lavelle & Sasha/Digweeds ghetto floor-pissing trance-hour

Re: WMC in retrospect

yes pickles, the arena party blew massive cock. never again will i attend a party that has remotely anything to do with ULTRA. i'll get around to my review as soon as i get the pics from my friends' cameras.

There's no way a party in the arena was going to be any good. I think I 'll skip Ultra as well next year...too much walking and its just too disorganized. Even though this was my 5th conference, I learned a lot this year about how to make the most of it next year.

Re: WMC in retrospect

I cant believe you guys actually thought ULTRA (or the afterparty) would be worth going to... And here I thought you guys were "in the know"... ;)

Its all about the money and making money with these sorts of events during WMC. Stick with the Underground parties and the promoters you trust and you will not be disappointed.

Re: WMC in retrospect

I NEVER thought that the venue would be great for the Ultra Afterparty, but seeing as how I didn't make it down until Wednesday, Digs wasn't playing the Bedrock party, and I didn't stay on my knees long enough to garner an invitation to the S&D boat party, it was my only chance of seeing him. Had I been in a position to come down on Tuesday afternoon/evening, I definitely would've checked him out at the Pawn Shop which would've freed up my Saturday night.

Although I didn't expect a great party at the AA Arena, I did expect a decent sound setup and an organized party for my $35. Boy, do I feel ripped off. Suffice it to say, I feel like this guy:

I had even started a tug-of-war session with one of them and his glowstick because I was getting annoyed. No more ultra afterparties for me.

Re: WMC in retrospect

Lessons learnt I guess... Plus it didnt help (for us MUSIC fans) that this year's WMC was on the same week as Spring-fucking-break!!! I mean come on! Another way to milk it and make more money off drunk college kids!

It totally sucks, but college kids are on spring break pretty much the entire month of March. The only way to solve that problem is to have WMC after Easter.
It totally sucks, but college kids are on spring break pretty much the entire month of March. The only way to solve that problem is to have WMC after Easter.
Finally! Someone gets it right. Before WMC people were so thankful that it wasn't during Spring Break and now people keep complaining that it was during Spring Break. Understand that Spring Break is not a universal set of dates. For instance, my Spring Break was the week prior to WMC, but Localizer's Spring Break was the week of WMC. And that type of thing goes on all over the US. You will never fully rid yourselves of the 'Spring Break' type of crowd unless you held WMC during the Fall which would defeat the purpose of calling it the Winter Music Conference.
