LA peeps, i am planning on coming down there for 5 days in may, just to get out of the northwest for a few days... i have been looking on travelocity for some hotels and whatnot, but i've never been to LA before. basically, i want to stay somewhere where i dont have to travel too far to "see the sights" and stuff. i want to be able to go to clubs without having to pay a ludicrous cab fair back to the car, etc. and i dont know LA. so if anyone can tell me the best area to stay if i want to be right in the middle of everything, it would be much appreciated 8)

p.s. i found a ridiculously cheap deal staying in whittier, ca for 5 days, around $500 for plane and hotel! but i assume this is quite the pain in the ass journey into the city, so i was aiming for downtown LA, assuming that would be the best location (obviously more pricey, but i have enough saved anyhow)

oh, and if anyone knows of anything good going on mid-may, let me know

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

well this isn't the best location, but i always stay in the embassy suites, right across from LAX (it isn't that loud). it is about 1/2 a mile from the beach and very close to marina del ray, hermosa, venice and redondo beaches. the hotel usually costs about $110 a day.

i know this probably isn't the most prime spot and i don't have a choice since i always go on business, but figured i'd throw it out there as a suggestion.

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

i am considering all options, so thankyou for your input :D

also i am not dead-set on LA, so if anyone can recommend a good place to go for 5 days, affordable, but pretty much anywhere, let me know 8)

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

does this include travel? how about a car? or will you get a taxi to and from the airport?

do you need some local assistance?

includes travel at the time. probably getting a taxi.. my girls friend lives there and might be able to pick us up and take us back to the airport..

my primary concern is location, as i said, i dont want to spend an arm and a leg getting around. we don't need a 5-star hotel with a little man in our bathroom to wipe our asses by any means... not planning on renting a car unless i found some kind of good package deal

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

IMO U should def rent a car, Dollar has some good deals coz thatz the problem in LA - > distance! About the location, u should prob go toward Hollywood cuz most of the club scenes are over there too (Spundae and Avalon) U should check Venice Beach on the 405, Santa Monica Mall with the 3rd Street, Hollywood Blvd and Sunset Blvd @ night (a lot of Strip clubs & bars), Beverly Hills...there are so many things to do tho:

Enjoy

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

Just went there two weeks ago, what a town. WE stayed in West Hollywood, You are between Beverly Hills, and Hollywood, like 30min from the Beach and 30 min from LAX. Stay on Sunset Strip, bars and excellent restaurants at walking distance. Go out early because they stop serving liquoar at 2am, so meet the right people.

If you want to get crazy go to Avalon on Sat, always good lineups, if you need anything ask the Mid-age chinnese....

Rent a car,....

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

if i were you i'd stay in santa monica. that's probably the best spot. close to the airport, rigth next to the beach, not that far from hollyweird. plus santa monica has decent little clubs and bars.

Spundae on Sunset Blvd, its a great/friendly venue as well with a huge smoking patio. U can check for the line-ups mid-april here http://www.spundae.com/fls/la.html and if u're still up for an after-hour (if there is one), U should go to Avalon after Spundae...crazy...I always used to do that and on sunday, u're pretty much dead 8)

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

I live on 7th and Bixel which is 2 blocks west of 7th/Figuroa. On 7th, between bixel and Lucas, there are 2 or 3 motels which are all under 40$. Location is okay, not dangerous at all just alot of nasty people.

Spundae is not on Sunset. It's on Santa Monica Blvd. I'd listen to Esef and try to stay in West Hollywood. Everything else will be too far if you plan to sight see and club.

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

A car is a must in LA, it is really sprawled out and there public transportation is not a good option. Hollywood is where it's at but if you're there for a few days try to get out of town and check out Malibu, simply amazing!

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

I recommend that you use Priceline to book your hotel room(s). You can find out what winning bids are at sites such as http://www.biddingfortravel.com .

I'm guessing you can get a 3* hotel in the $50 range. Maybe lower, depending on the dates and area.

The first time I used Priceline, I got a 3-star 1-br suite outside of Seattle for $33. The desk clerk told one customer the lowest that the prices for the rooms go down to was $129. I laughed...

#394734Post 24 of 37

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

saw some good prices on there. i think i would like to (as suggested) stay in the west hollywood area, i just dont know how large that area is, and only a couple of the travel sites gave me the option to narrow it down that much.

as an example, how close to "everything" is 321 NORTH VERMONT AVE :?:

i looked on a map, and didnt see the street names mentioned in this thread. the deal i found for that location is very good pricewise, and i will add a rental car to it. it says 4 miles from beverly hills and 10 miles from airport.... for an LA noob, is this a good location or am i going to get lost trying to find places?

#394813Post 25 of 37

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that's a pretty ghetto location. But it is close to Sunset Blvd and the Hollywood area. One thing about LA...you definitely will need a car. I like the Santa Monica area as far as locations go...especially by the 3rd Street.

#394818Post 26 of 37

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

yeah, i decided i will be getting a car.

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

Peloquin - just a few things to add...

-don't stay near the airport. that's wack. stay in Hollywood, or maybe Santa Monica as some have suggested.

-BIG YES to renting a car. It's essential. "Nobody walks in L.A."

-I'm PMing you with details of a Friday night party called Basic that you must attend. It's every other Friday night; fortunately you will be there the weekend it happens.

Re: FAO Los Angeles People

its looking like we may now be going the 19th-25th....

the only car rental problem is that i am only 23, and many places won't rent to people under 25... this is my problem, and why i asked about location. i will try to find a car place to rent at a decent price for an "underage" renter
