Since the market crash of 2006 incomes have mostly stayed the same or decreased for a lot of people simply due to a lack of demand. Sure there are those making more $$ than ever before as well. But for those of us making less (and in my case I changed to a career where you make less $$$ for at least the first 5 yrs) are you also spending less on clothes? It's clear retails stores are not doing as well as they once were. I used to always spend $ on clothes at least a couple times a year, but lately I haven't been, and I can't say I'm any less happy either. I do have a fair amount of nice and some expensive clothes (hugo boss suits, etc) from when I was making good $$$.

Styles also seem to have changed a lot. What does everyone make of today's trends? Seems like a lot of people are wearing high top nike trainers, and 90's styles are back. I will never wear that stuff , as I think it looks clownish, but I'm curious to hear everyones input on today's styles.

Do you wear whatever you want regardless of style/fashion or how it looks? Or do you try to buy new clothes often that are stylish? I really stopped caring right around the time we had our baby, but I was pretty much over it after college honestly. At that point I had to buy nice clothes for the business I was in, as it was the standard.

Re: New Clothes/New Styles

I own clothes shops over in the UK, and we can certainly see price becoming more and more relevant.

We stock brands like Barbour International, Barbour Heritage, Hackett, John Smedley, Wolsey 1755, Levi Vintage, Barkers, Loakes. So lots of British Heritage brands, we can get £100 for a Hackett classic shirt that won't date, but that is the look right now, when it is way out and wacky we struggle to get those prices.

The fact we can get £180 for a pair of Aigle Parcourt II wellington boots but struggle to get £69 for a pair of limited Vans tells you something. If people are spending money they need to know it is going to see them through a few seasons.

I have a mate who has a sneaker store, he is getting £100 for a pair of classics, like Adidas 70s style, but his Nike Dunk Hi's are in sale at 60% off, why?? because all those late 80's early 90's style boots look shit!! They looked shot then and they look shitter now!

Classics that look good will always look good and get peoples dollar, fashion that is just fashion even if it looks pants will always struggle.

Some of the sharpest people I know never really follow fashion, they just wear what they look good in. Of course you will always follow your peers slightly, but you have to wear what suits you and where you hang out, but I reckon always be true to who you are, the ones that aren't always stand out like a sore thumb and just look like complete pricks.

Re: New Clothes/New Styles

I use whatever I like to. I don´t like trendy clothing, or too expensive clothes. Here in Argentina, the well known brands are more expensive than anywhere in the world.

:roflmao: that is so true.

Regarding the rest of your post -- you obviously know what's what, interesting insight too. What kind of a MS discount do we get on those limited edition vans and levis? ;) jk

Re: New Clothes/New Styles

Haha, I think even after a 50% discount, UK prices will still be about the same as stateside at full price.

Re: New Clothes/New Styles

I love this site...

P & P P

People on there look 'cool', very much a 'how the other half live' look to most of them.....

From this...

You can bet he dressed like that every day.

And then this guy..

He may wear that when hanging out with his 'fashion' friends, but I bet when he is going to a gig with his real mates those loafers and that jacket are swapped for a pair of limited edition Nikes and a cool vintage hoody. And that to me is how to look cool, making it look like it took no thinking about.

But I guess it depends where you live, you might wear that sort of gear round SoHo, or in Shoreditch (east end of London) going for a night out, but head to a party over in Queens or Brixton and you would (I hope) dress completely differently, but always only dress in a style that you feel comfy in, if you feel conscious looking in the mirror then you can guarantee you look a cunt! haha

Re: New Clothes/New Styles

I usually buy in the sales, and have been using on-line stores like oki-ni.com and maharishi.

Got some great bargain deals on adidas classic trainers, jeans, shirts and t-shirts as that's what I tend to prefer as I wear a suit/business attire during the day.

Plus its nice to find labels like A.P.C. (Paris) NN.07 and Norse Projects (Denmark) to comfy Veja (Brazil) suede boots.

Re: New Clothes/New Styles

One thing that strikes me whenever I go home is how poorly Americans dress. I generally don't care what other people wear, but FFS buy clothes that fit you. No need to wear an XXXXXXXL shirt if you fit in a L.

haha, so true.

And if you are carrying a few extra pounds buy something with a slimming line to it, not something that is 10 sizes to big, it doesn't make you look slimmer!!

They are called Middletons. Based in Norfolk.

We sell a lot of Barbour on Amazon, new collections going on next week.

I will post a link to our website when all the new Autumn stuff goes up in a couple of weeks and put an MS discount code up of 20% or something.

Actually XXXXXXXL is the correct size for most of us.

Re: New Clothes/New Styles

Unfortunately I'm a shopping whore, I shop like a girl :what:( Almost bought two pairs of shoes today and looked at a third, but decided to go with one. And then promptly got a pair of sunglasses from 1973 :what:(

Even though I have enough hobbies to keep myself occupied, shopping is how I walk around and decompress.

Fashion-wise I'm no trend setter or even early adopter. Prefer to let the trends set in and decide what I like and what works.

I've noticed two types of male dressers: 1) Men who don't care how clothes fit on them, how they wear their clothes, or how they look, and 2) men in NY who're way too overdressed to be ... men. Kinda extreme.

When it comes to style, just wear clothes that fit.

Re: New Clothes/New Styles

Fashion is a pretty silly thing in Singapore because it's hot and humid all year round, you'd think people dress like that. But no, you find people in suits or shirts, skinny jeans, hoodies, scarves, beanies ...
