Think deep house is taking over.

Re: no, personally I don't

i actually do think it is... when was the last time you heard a pure progressive set from start to finish ?

Re: no, personally I don't

I think that to some degree what genre music is called depends on what is currently hot. i.e. when progressive is hot, more gets tagged progressive. When prog is a dirty word , quite often unfortunately  it gets called deep house. They do cross over a lot, but progressive is probably harder to define because it takes from so many genres, hence , progressive. :)

Re: no, personally I don't

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens Brown paper packages tied up with strings These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites When the bee stings When I'm feeling sad I simply remember my favorite things And then I don't feel so bad

Re: no, personally I don't

Seriously! "My Favorite Things", in which he plays soprano in the title track. Beyond epic. Side B has a more conventional but still grandiose version of Summertime. It was John's first step towards the experimental jazz of the 60's.

Anyway. Caption this pic:

I didn't see that coming :)! During the memorable Euro tours of the late 50s - early 60s, influenced by Eric Dolphy, he began questioning the track format and the conventional ways of composing.

Re: no, personally I don't

yeah, those Vanguard discs with Dolphy and coltrane's quartet are great. I went through a few years when all I listened to was Coltrane. Now I've gotta be in a special mood to listen to his stuff.

His deep sound really took over ;)
