So...minimal died long ago, right?

So after my other thread where I embarrassed myself with some trancy prog, I thought I should balance it out with this attempt at getting back to my roots... :)

Seems like everyone who was doing "minimal" or tech house has gone back to doing some more disco-y filtered house, which isn't really my thing. And what is left under the "minimal" genre title sounds pretty abysmal.

For those of you who remember the kind of minimal / tech house stuff I was generally into, I was hoping you could help me out... Let's say that you've been living under a rock for like two years (which I pretty much was). Where should one start in coming back into the scene? What artists or sets should be on the radar?

Thank you in advance for your wisdom. 8)

Re: So...minimal died long ago, right?

Minimal is a niche today but the genre still produces its masterpieces (see Extrawelt).

As for Sasha & Digweed playing Booka Shade and electro, that's a different story, most embarassing moment in recent dj history.

Take this tracklisting, for instance, apart from intro and outro, all the artists involved are stunning producers, sometimes bordering with industrial and dark techno:

 1. Birds Of Passage - Highwaymen in Midnight Masks [Denovali Records]
 2. Cio D'Or - Wasserkraft [Prologue]
 3. Brian Ffar - Skipping Stones After Dark [Siteholder Records]
 4. Louer - Secret Smile [Archipel]
 5. Max Cooper - Echoes Reality (Umit Han Remix) [Traum]
 6. Wasserfall - Thursday [Greta Cottage Workshop]
 7. SEQ - Morning Around (Andy Slaker Remix) [Earlydub Records]
 8. Miro Pajic - This You In Me [Lazerslut]
 9. Obtane & Giorgio Gigli - Social Deconstruction [Zooloft]
 10. Richard H. Kirk - Never Lose Your Shadow [EMI]

Re: So...minimal died long ago, right?

All these sub genres mean nothing btw, if you want a good dj to play good music then its all about finding the right thing that suits you.

Everybodys view is different so its difficult to pigeon hole a set or genre imo, good music is good music?? End of as far as im concerned! 8)

Re: So...minimal died long ago, right?

There's a thin line between minimal and what Beatport calls electronica, Thora Vukk is a masterpiece!

Best mnml album of 2011 along with Arandel's In #D, http://www.discogs.com/Arandel-In-D/release/2241919

Re: So...minimal died long ago, right?

Could be, Ricardo villalobos and Loco Dice, but now, I think they are playing more tech-house or whatever they call, they are not my favorite but sometimes they have interesting things.

Re: So...minimal died long ago, right?

Hmmm I kinda remember what you were into Miroslav... (welcome back btw)

I would go for some Tommy Four Seven, more minimal techno stuff but nice and dark!
