There is a tremendous noise when a volcano eruption happens. The loudest noise registered was in 1883 in the Krakatoa volcano. The noise was heard around 3000 miles away.
In 5 billion years the Sun will run out of fuel and turn into a Red Giant.

The Sun produces all its energy by fusing 4 Hydrogen atoms into a Helium atom thereby discharging immense amount of radiation, light, and heat. When all the Hydrogen available to it burns out, it will start burning the Helium atoms, causing the atoms to grow in size due to the immense heat, and that will result in the end of the earth as the sun grows to 250 times its original size and fries away the 4 inner planets. It will completely end up destroying Mercury and Venus in the process as they will physically cease to exist.
Re: Post one Random Scientific Fact you know...

One of the most famous "Alien Abduction" cases was of Betty and Barney Hill. Under regressive hypnosis, Betty Hill drew a map of an unknown galaxy (at the time - and now believe to be that of Zeta Reticulii) as the location that her abductor's claimed they were from. Is this scientific? No, is her claim scientific? No? but consider that the star constellation she drew well before the arrangement of stars was discovered, certainly leaves your head scratching, could this drawing / arrangement of stars just be "luck"?

Re: Post one Random Scientific Fact you know...

Photons know when they are being observed and behave differently when under observation and when not i.e. it can cause them to be in more than 2 places at one time when they are not being observed but collapse to only to probabilities (yes / no) when they are. If tiny particles of matter, like photos/particles of light, have the same properties, can solid objects be in several places at one time when they are not being observed?

Re: Post one Random Scientific Fact you know...

When electrons are sped up in the LHC to 99.99999% of the speed of light, just as Einstein stated, they start to gain enough mass that makes them just about as thick as a human hair. In the subsequent and intended head-on collisions of these electrons that occurs in the detectors, despite being so small, due to their sheer speed, they gather enough momentum and energy equivalent to that of colliding with an air-craft carrier doing 30 knots.

Re: Post one Random Scientific Fact you know...

I read that, though I'm still puzzled if that is in fact the Higgs Boson or a newly discovered particle they feel, is it.

Meanwhile, new / interesting fact - (thanks to Neil deGrasse Tyson)

Does a fly on an airplane add weight if the fly never lands? // Yup. The weight of the air goes up.
Getting asked about Higgs. Strictly, a new boson has been discovered, but haven't confirmed precisely what it is. Probably a Higgs.
