a year or so ago my childhood best friend asked me to manage him as he started out becoming a professional singer/songwriter. I eventually accepted the challenge and helped him get on "The Voice," booked him on a bunch of live gigs in places like HOB Hollywood, etc. Anyway, recently one of the producers I introduced him to from Miami asked him if he would sing on one of Paul Oakenfolds new cds. We find out this week if they use his vocals or not on the song. The odds of something like that happening I thought were pretty insane, so anyway, at least it's not Tiesto right? :lol:

as much as some people on here don't like oakenfold these days, there are plenty of people that do. i think it's a great start for him. he should be able to make some really good contacts for the future too.... that's if his manager is worth a damn! ;)

^you're absolutely right G. I'm worth my weight in gold seeing as how all the hours I've put in on branding, creating his website, networking and marketing have all been pro-bono :lol:

he's living in LA now in case anyone reading this knows anyone there he should meet ;).

The producer said today they are 98% sure his vocals will make it on the track and 95% the track will make it on the album... We should know in 1 week. :)

I've heard the record and it's actually much better than I would have expected, of course since it's my friend I'm going to favor it no matter what... but it's so surreal that he's even on a [url="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=154"]Paul Oakenfold[/url] record, I can hardly believe my ears. More news! Last night the producer spoke with Paul who said he really liked Josh's vocals. Apparently Markus Shulz heard the track and also wants Josh to add his vocals to one of his new songs as well "before he get's too big." He also asked Josh if he knew any female singers and Josh sent his girlfriend's music. Markus said he wants her to sing on 3 of his tracks, one of them is with Rhianna. Anyway, interesting stuff. Now, Josh's GF is signed by a label, so we'll see how that goes. My question to any dj's out there reading this who have paid for someone to sing on their album, what was the compensation for the vocalist? Was it a buyout or royalty situation?
