Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
Not of enough huge breakdowns, crowd is dissapoint.
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
Three would have been wicked to see.
No good Florida?
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
I will be there.
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
Actually I made a mistake, I thought The Kennedy was the same Tampa venue that I went to Paolo Mojo at and the crowd was terrible... so never mind me :lol: Hope it's as amazing as it should be :)
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
I have not been to The Kennedy, but have heard the major complaint is the room is all bar, no dancefloor. But oh well, I'm not going to see Sasha someplace else that night.
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
there is room but its a small dancefloor. its no space miami.
florida orange you are thinking about Jacksons which is my favorite spot when a quality dj ISNT in town. :)
i'll be there...who else is going?
can't wait.i was sort of disappointed in his miami set last year during mmc.

Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
Florida tonight! Chicago tomorrow <--- I'll be there Los Angeles on Satuday
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
280 Flights to O'Hare canceled due to Snow. I wonder if Sasha will be able to make it to Chicago :( http://www.suntimes.com/10122080-417/280-flights-grounded-ahead-of-snow-5-to-8-inches-possible.html
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
So the report: It was an alright night, I guess. Sasha played a very similar set to the ones floating around lately. (i.e. Warehouse Project stream) The crowd kinda sucked. No vibe, really. People seemed very lackadaisical, tired, or bored quite frankly. There wasn't much energy in the room, that's for sure.
I give it a solid "meh"..... an unenthusiastic 1 thumb up, 1 thumb down.
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
lol, ju crasy mang. maybe you are right, i stayed up front with the more "enthusiastic" crowd. three fucking threw it down. sasha started off slow, i mean maybe three took it up a few notches he was supposed to but once sasha got into his grove (lol) it was lights out and then when three and sasha went back to back....OMG...fucking outstanding night. cant wait for WMC.
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
Just saying that I've felt much better vibe at other events where I've seen him. I always prefer the smaller venue events like last night, but that one did not rank up very high against other ones I've seen.
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
well, Sasha made it to Chicago without problems https://twitter.com/#!/sashaofficial/status/160434378231652352
So, it sounds like he's still spinning some tracks in the same vain of Never say Never, but mixed in with some newer Prog House releases?
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
He opened with the second track from the 2nd video in the Sasha @ Warung video thread. If you skip forward to about 1:30 into that vid you'll hear it.
Other tracks I can remember, not in any particular order:
Maceo Plex - Stay High Baby Luke Abbott - Brazil (Slow Version) Luke Abbott - Grumble Metronomy - Everything Goes My Way (Ewan Pearson dub) Fritz Kalkbrenner - Kings In Exile (Booka Shade Remix) Slove - Flash (Pachanga Boys Remix) Planningtorock - Living It Out (Billy Lock Remix) Scuba - Adrenalin
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
that was one of the most pathetic crowds ever. embarrassing actually. it didn't even seem half capacity.
Funny how each interprets the music differently. i thought sasha started banging by the second track. then i thought they were horrible at the end when they started going btb.
its funny so many people out back i chatted with didn't even know who sasha was. as a matter of fact as i was waiting in line outside to piss sasha comes up and the portapotti man makes him rip out his wallet and cash to pay a for a single cigarette. LOL.

Exactly..... and that's why I stand by my original comment. Weak crowd. No vibe. Sasha was just going through the motions. You could see in his body language, the crowd was not energizing him.... and vice versa. I've seen Sasha enough times to know the difference between him having a good time playing vs. not. This was definitely not.
I had the same impression about the crowd. Mostly dirtbags who were there becuase it was a place to get drunk and find some poon. Many people had not clue about who was playing, or the style of music.

That would explain my last experience in Tampa as well for Paolo Mojo.. it's one thing if the dirtbags are into the music, but when they don't even care, it's just not fun.
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
Chuckc said is best..... it really was embarrassing. I was very glad that some of my friends that had not seen Sasha before decided not to go. I would have been very ashamed for dragging them there with all of the praise they have heard from me beforehand.
I liked everything Sasha played, so the problem wasn't the music. It really was just a bad crowd.
I have always felt that one of the cool things about the electronic music scene is that the audience truly is an active participant in the outcome of the night. When you have a great DJ and an enthusiastic crowd the night can be amazing. There is no surprise that music can affect our emotions, and vice versa. You hear the same track in two different settings and it sounds completely different. Plus the DJ may take the music a totally different direction when the crowd is up for it. But take away either factor in that equation (great DJ or great crowd), and you have something like what we saw Thursday.
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
Holy Shit, Last Night (in Chicago) was ridiculous. Out of all the times I've seen Sasha in the last 10 years, I have NEVER seen him as energetic, or having as much fun, or generally happy to spin his tracks for the fine audience of SpyBar. He was moving around in the booth all night, shaking hands with people up front, and even gave out his headphones at the end of the night. (He got them back, though, after he went up for 2 encores.)
The crowd was pretty damn good for being as crowded as it was. Lots of hand shaking, high fives, and hugs :). Everyone was having a blast. Very different from the (semi) normal douchebaggery crowd that tends to show up for a Chicago club. Maybe the horrible weather scared them away. Also, the crowd was probably 80% male, so I think they were all general fans of Sasha in the first place, or didn't have chicks around them to bring out the douchebag clubber within.
I'm pretty bad at track spotting, but he definitely played: LCD Soundsystem - You wanna hit Scuba - Adrenlin and 2 others I've recognized from his Never Say Never sets.
The whole night was definitely a Never say Never vibe, which is pretty damn special to experience in person. :)
(Also, I recorded almost the whole thing, so that'll be on YouTube in about a day.)
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
Great to hear. Just goes to show that the crowd really can make or break an event.

Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
I had fun it was ok, great to hang out with jay813. but come on guys by now we all know what sasha is like, and how you know what he is gonna play. i'm sure chicago was almost the same, really liked his first track pretty intense stuff.
did anyone see the guy that was recording the set with this hand held thingy, i met him at the warren show last month here. he is supposed to send it to me...we shall see.

Yes, I'm very sure the set in Chicago was nearly identical. The point I was making was how the same music in a different venue with a different crowd could create a dramatically different vibe.
I'm not sure what the first track was, but if you go to the thread in this forum with the videos from Sahsa @ Warung.... click to the second video and forward about 1:30 into the clip and you will hear the track. It's awesome.
And yes, I saw the guy with the recorder. Hopefully it turned out OK. He was holding it up in the air the whole time and I know that the sound system was getting obnoxiously harsh, particularly with the screeching high-end. I was very glad I had my ear plugs that night.

u aint lying. sounded somewhat distorted in spots. hope three finds a better venue to play at in the future. i am starting to see why steve graham refused to go to that place.

Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
sound, vibe, crowd.... we loved it. myself i've played there 3 times now... best room in the southeast outside of miami. also, the room was been reworked about 6 months ago.... no more bar cutting length ways through dance floor.
glad you enjoyed it, jay813 (... and good nights should go up and down with intensity of music... its a lost art unfortunately!)
also... sasha made a point of switching his flight to 6am in order to make it to chi-town before the snow... he made it.
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
nice. glad you guys enjoyed it as well. goes to show you that some people have very different experiences at the same event. i also agree with your thoughts on the new kennedy lay out. so much better, i think was mostly everyones biggest complaint. now has a much more open layout for the dance floor.
i will say since you were nice enough to post here that all i heard was how good you have been playing lately. I cant say that Ive made it to snatch anytime recently but after thursday will make it a point to catch you as often as i can.
i know tampa is not a big market for djs and i am eternally grateful for helping to bring in the big names to tampa but is it possible to get these djs to come on a friday or saturday night? some of us older folk have kids now. lol.
was a great night overall and hopefuly dont have to wait another 2 years before seeing sasha in tampa
also anyone see that recording pop up yet?
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
doubt that it spends in countries of the first world
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
kind of bemused (more amused really) at the comments, but there's always somebody who doesn't like it... no biggy. the night did in the low 700's which for a thursday in january is great (clubs are always dead in january) ,,,,, this isnt electro house or skrillex! about 70% of the attendees were presale tickets so most everyone there.... wanted to be there. digweed, cox, sasha... and obviously myself have nothing but good things to say about the venue, as well. the system there was done by Dan Agne of Cielo fame. its a great system and have to be one of the harshest critics about venues, but i digress. to the contrary of some comments here sasha and i were very into it and had a blast. odd the only negative response i've come across for this night is on a message board though. actually its not odd i guess..... message boards are the devils water cooler :)
as for the friday / saturday thing. fridays will continue to do DJs at HPC, but more underground names as usual (this is the 10th year of the Snatch night i do down there). these occasional bigger shows you have been seeing on thursdays (cox, digweed, sasha...) will actually be on saturdays from now on...... starting on Saturday Feb 25th with Danny Tenaglia. that said there still might be a weeknight show here and there.... some guys just won't do small venues on the weekend.
lastly, we'd appreciate not having some dodgy hand-held recording floating around. and what is the deal with standing around with recorders or filming awful videos (lets be honest.... complete crap videos) and putting tons of them on youtube? the ones with the bright lights continually shining at the booth.... awful. its funny cause sasha and i's only complaint were about the people doing that. some perspective perhaps... all DJs really hate that. :)
keep the faith.
Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
^ just for that, I'm going to write a personal letter to Simon Cowell and recommend that you be one of three guest dj judges for his eventual "world's greatest dj" talent programme.

Re: Sasha + Three------>FLORIDA!
so glad to hear about the weekend thing. looking forward to some more house goodness in tampa, which id have to say is comparable to miami as far as talent that visits when WMC is not on.
i thought you shining the flashlight back at the cameras was rather funny....
the devils watercooler....lol
