If you ask yourself "wtf" or "who the hell is jamie jones" , then yeah, remember, this doesn't reflect the qualities in any way. Or dj fees.

I know that each ranking is different but this poll comes a little closer to reality.

Re: RA Poll: Dj Top100

obv MUCH MUCH closer than DJ Mag...but still subjective at best. No need for polls whatsoever..just a source of discussion at best

Re: RA Poll: Dj Top100

They say it themselves in the last sentence about Jamie Jones : "The hottest tracks + the most gigs = the #1 DJ of 2011.". Of course, the same criteria go for the DJ Mag list, or any other which is basically not much more than a popularity contest... it sums the poll up and basically gives away the fact that many people probably voted for some guys more on the strength of their productions, than on their performance as DJ´s. I know for a fact that Lee Foss is a pretty crappy DJ, but hey, Hot Creations were all the rage this year...

Anyway, at least this poll still has some great DJs in there...it's hardly on the same retarded level as the Mixmag one, but still reads like a who's who of hipster techhouse nonsense. Moving on...

not a bad result over all. I am surprised Jamey Jones is number one though, I cant stand that sound for more than a few tracks at a time

Agree 100% with that statement. All these new mixes bore me to death after about 10m. Sets just seem to go nowhere. No Danny Howells is laughable:roll:

I'm surprised Hawtin, Villalobos, and Loco Dice made it to top 10 and Marco Carola at 11. Digweed has a pretty good position considering it's RA.

Re: RA Poll: Dj Top100

13. John Digweed There's honestly not much to say about John Digweed at this point. What's most amazing about the progressive house king's longevity, however, is the longevity itself. Dance music is a young man's game, yet Diggers continues to add colors and countries to his already voluminous gig diary. Few DJs on this list have played Macedonia,Cyprus,Israel and Taiwan. He did it in the past 12 months. It's Digweed's professionalism, consistency and dedication that keeps him booked every weekend in clubs around the world. The music, meanwhile, is what keeps crowds coming back year after year.

Well that descripes the real Winner, not ''The hottest tracks + the most gigs = the #1 DJ of 2011.''....
Which part of it is more than a popularity contest?
The fact that much of that popularity results from the sort of artists that the site itself decides to cover. It´s a feedback loop.

I voted in this, but to be honest, the reason I did it is because I know that this list has some weight with promoters and unlike the DJ Mag one, some of my favorite DJ´s actually stand a chance to get in this one, thus more bookings for them, so it´s one of my ways of showing support.

Nothing says entertainment like reading the RA boards or other boards the day the ra poll is released..."OMG who is this new dj ???" " and why is my favorite on this position ?" , "what?? this guy got #... ?"

Re: RA Poll: Dj Top100

I am sure, if we would merge all threads from 2002 till today where people discussed the meaning and outcome of the DJ Mag/RA polls, page wise we would have quite a rival to the nonsense thread lol.

Funny I had a look on there, they have Tiesto, PVD, David Guetta and many others that a far more popular in their DJ pages. Now when DJ's that pull big numbers at every event they do and don't make it even into the Top 100 there is something seriously wrong somewhere. So what your actually saying is that it represents DJ you actually like so therefore it has more credibility. So you know this carries more weight with Promoters unlike the DJ Mag . Promoters don't make money making disisons based on the RA poll over any other poll unless they are morons. The DJ Mag poll covers a wider spectrum of the EDM comunity and therefore covers a truer reflection of the voting public whether you like the results or not. Personaly I think they are both manipulated, but RA more credible, I don't think so. You would get a far better reflection on who is the most popular DJ by looking at how much money they earn a year soley from gigs. Promoters will pay big money for a DJ that gets people through the door over one who charts high in some poll.

Yeah true. As a half-promoter myself, i have some idea about the dj fees and i can tell you, if we ignore all those trance/house popstars, the top10 would be really something [ms] community would pretty much like.

Really I got all the hits from all the DJ's asking for their vote as usual.

Re: RA Poll: Dj Top100

Chunky,

You might have misread me, or I might have expressed myself unclearly.

I didn´t say this one carries more weight with promoters than the DJ Mag one. For the large majority of them, it will actually carry less.

I said that unlike the DJ Mag poll, the RA poll presents more opoortunities to the DJs I like getting visibility, than the DJ Mag one.

Anyway, I stand by what I said, that as reflections of the public´s preferences, these polls do have weight, the point is that they are directed at, and voted by, different types of public, with only partial overlap.

However, I would agree that this overlap tends to grow, as RA is less and less "unerground", and more and more subject to PR influencing.

EDIT : and by the way, I know for a fact that, at least in my country, these polls are taken as guides by promoters for who they choose to book.
