[b]so what was it THIS TIME ??[/b]

We felt that the divide and grow rule would help MP out very well because with MP being an independant site, we could add more to it in terms of information and features. As it turns out, no one really gave a shit....

So after a little debate over the weekend (and a near unanimous agreement between the team), we have decided to merge all the sites - but starting only with MP and MS since they are both musically related. Obviously this wasn't something that would have gone live without discussing with the members and so to even make sure it works (to begin with), I decided to run a test on a dummy database in the back.

[i][b]But that still begs the question, why the fuck were we off for 24 hours encryption ??[/b][/i] I know I know, ok so I found a piece of code that will merge the users and forums of both sites into 1 database.... when I ran the mod on a fresh new database and imported all the posts / forums / users from MP, it worked like a charm..... and it left MP intact (I also decided to experiment with MP first since it is a smaller DB, restoring it would have been less of a headache)

anyways since the MP import to the new DB went without a hitch, I thought, why not try it with MS.... and thats when the shit hit my face..... it changed all the member numbers, post associations and forum ids BEFORE importing it onto the new DB. Consquently, the entire site went offline in an instant.....

Luckily because of my last experiences, I had a backup of about 10 minutes before the site went down so a few of you may find a couple of missing posts.....

now back to the issue..... what do the members think of the merging ? YAY OR NAY ??

It truly will be a huge site -e-, but that is something i always loved about MS. It was the one stop shopping for the forum whore.

Take your time and create sub sections of all the you have done. I think you should be fine.

Ummm...whatever is the least work for your E. I mean, you guys dump so much time and effort into this board alone, and if [mP] can exist more or less independently, I think that's ok, since those who are interested will clearly tootle over there when their heart desires. If it's easier to have them merged, then by all means merge the beasts!

I can't speak for engine since I never use it.

it's your webspace, do what you want. I personally don't visit MP or MM, so it might benefit me to have the content on [ms]... but since I don't visit them, I could care less.

In the process of merging the two Forums to one Forum it might happen that the board goes down again ove the next days and it will be down for sure for a while when the test phase is over and the Merge will happen so please bear with us. But when it works out like we planned you won't have to switch between the sites any longer so we thought it?s worth the try.

Glad to see the board back up, was such a boring day yesterday without it... I'd say merging the two would be great as people hate having to login multiple times (sort of like those EZ Board global login's or MSN's system).... I'm sure you'll make the best decision either way...

I?m all for it.

I mean, I?m very much into music production software and related technologies, but I didn?t feel compelled to post much over at MP because the place was usually a bit dead.

I?m sure this fusion will help bring more attention to those issues, as the idea behind MP was brilliant, and it deserves that attention.

I was actually able to get to the boards few hours ago, though, aand it was pretty funny, because all the posts and nicknames were mixed up...I was like, "Ok, -E- decided to make "MercuryServer (Totally Mashed Up Bootleg Remix)" an I laughed a bit at all the mess.

Anyway, thanks for all the hard work and a brilliant job.

Glad to see the site back up. I personnally think that merging the sites together would be easier for everybody. Making sub-forums and everything would make all clear and simple. But also, i think you guys should do what is easier for you. Keep up to amazing work

It might be nice to have them merged. There are times when I'd like to post something that might appropriately be posted in one of the other forums, but I end up posting here instead because there's so much more activity.

maybe if we just made sure that the integrated section that was formerly MP has a nice fancy professional look to it, (not that the site doesn't) maybe some sort of obvious difference between "featured" and "uploaded". Ya think?

Regarding the merging of the sites; I'm not really sure. I think that while some topics sections could be moved, I on the other hand would keep some things on mercurypromote (DJ Bios, singles and other "promotional" stuff. But hey, it's your site, so do what you want. As far as I know you and myself I am 99.9999999999999999999% sure I'll like the result. :wink:

Merging them would be more convienient.. it gets to be a problem going through the two sites... I really think ms and mp should be merged so that the whole community can follow whats happening and be exposed to the music being made there and the artists that have signed up.

i think merging would be good... it would definatly give people with tracks and mixes more exposure. i remember posting something on [ms] about using a certain kind of software, then it got moved and nobody answered untill it was required to go over there for the ftp... so yeah merge.... if its easy for you guys if not f it!
