Re: Lou Reed+Metallica 'lulu'

Heard it last week, thought it was a joke.

I told my friend, okay, seriously, play me something from the actual album.

^

i haven't heard it yet but have read really bad reviews on the album ... sounds like they managed to hit new lows with this album since they released the horrible Load/Reload

and i thought they had started to get good again after they had release Death Magnetic

Re: Lou Reed+Metallica 'lulu'

I heard this was shit. Pitchfork gave it a 1.0 out of 10 too. wtf.

Re: Lou Reed+Metallica 'lulu'

Haven't bought it yet and I'm the biggest Metallica-fan in the world.

Thought St Anger was their low point. Load / Reload had one album worth of good songs in it but not two.

Re: Lou Reed+Metallica 'lulu'

I was going to buy it this past weekend, but it was f*king expensive (any cd: AR$42, LULU: AR$82 wtf??). I´m a big Metallica fan, lulu seemed to be a nice experience btw. I haven´t heard it yet, just a live track when they peformed on tv.

p.s.: imo Load and Reload are master pieces... not metal, but a nice darkness

Re: Lou Reed+Metallica 'lulu'

Only heard one track and actually liked it. Also, if Pitchfork says it sucks, it might actually be good.

Mike Patton from Faith No More actually spoke about it in an interview a few days ago :
You know, it's funny you mention that, because today I'm meant to give a quote about the record. I haven't heard the record but the New York Times is doing a big piece on the cultural significance of a record like that... It's an interesting idea... what they're asking is: 'Is it worth it for an artist to take risks like this when there's going to be a huge backlash?' And they asked me. My first reaction was 'no comment'. I haven't heard the record, I'm not going to start talking out of my breeches here. But the 'idea' of a record like that I think is amazing. I think it's great. Why can't a fucking platinum-selling band work with an experimental pioneer? Why not?
I mean, yes, God forbid a band or it´s listeners getting out of their confort zone, right? And anyway, for me, the "real" Metallica ended when Cliff died, so they can do all they want, personally I admire their courage.

Re: Lou Reed+Metallica 'lulu'

Metallica's fans are annoying pests. The tracks, even the long one that everyone's hatin', are not remotely as bad as they say them to be. I won't listen to the thing ever again but I've heard worse from the people involved. If this is bad than Lou's Stupid Music phase or St. Anger what are supposed to be. Lou is a "has been"? Metallica hasn't done anything meaningful in decades, apart from Kirk, they're old and bitter. That said, the way Lars speaks is the most entertaining thing in the world.

I love Death Magnetic.Best thing since Masters /Justice.

Lars is unintentionally hysterical! What a self centered arrogant asswipe.!

edit: this just popped up.. Rihanna has sampled Metallica - hahaha

Re: Lou Reed+Metallica 'lulu'

st.anger was recorded without adding any effects, that's why it sounds the way it sounds. It all surrounds the anger feeling. the lyrics, the chords, the way its played and singed... It's a concept album. I don't like it very much, but it's a great piece of art. even the drawings and pics. And if you watch the dvd that comes with the album, you'll see how they play that high speed metal shit... unbelievable

Re: Lou Reed+Metallica 'lulu'

I watched the documentary (2 hours +), the "Classic Records: Black Album" dvd, with extras. That's a whole lot of Lars, a whole lot of him. Of course, no one can question their reputation and back catalog. But that if that record is a piece of art then that wasn't intentional, in a Metal Machine Music way.
